Description
From the taper collection of “LIVE TOGETHER” that turned the common sense of “audience recording” upside down, the live album of the second day of the 2009 tour is exclusively released. The impact of “LIVE TOGETHER” will be left to the commentary of “TOKYO 2009 1ST NIGHT” released at the same time, but that taper also recorded Jeff Beck’s solo performance, and following “TOKYO 2009 THIRD NIGHT” of the NHK Hall performance on the third day, “TOKYO 2009 1ST NIGHT” on the first day and “TOKYO 2009 2ND NIGHT” on the second day also appeared. This work was recorded at the “Tokyo International Forum performance on February 7, 2009”. It is the day after the first day at the same venue. And this work also has a tremendous super-high sound quality. Despite the acoustics being completely different from “LIVE TOGETHER” at Saitama Arena, “TOKYO 2009 THIRD NIGHT” at NHK Hall, and this work at Tokyo International Forum, the superb sound with “ultra” attached is not missed at any venue… However, even with the same taper, same venue, and next day performance, the nuance is different from “TOKYO 2009 1ST NIGHT”. Of course, it is still an abnormally high-quality sound, but compared to “TOKYO 2009 1ST NIGHT” which was characterized by the bass sound, this work has a wonderful extension of the mid- and high-range, like a crystal glass wine glass. The guitar sound is so delicate that you can even feel the unevenness of the strings, and the direct feeling is so dazzling that it can only be said to be “shining”. The audience at the site also highlights the clarity and direct feeling. Listening to the cheers that occur between songs, you can see how successful and enthusiastic they are, but when the performance starts, they don’t make a sound at all. The silence that seems to echo even with the sound of rustling clothes is not just silence. It is a silence that conveys the concentration of listening to the performance and the tension of not wanting to miss a single sound. Jeff’s guitar dances, cuts through, and resonates in such an atmosphere. Jeff’s performance expression changes every day, but on this day, perhaps because of the sound, he made me feel a flash of inspiration that seemed to break if I touched it. Of course, it’s not just the guitar. The 2009 Jeff Beck Group is the best in history. Vinnie Colaiuta, a virtuoso who cannot be praised enough, Tal Wilkenfeld, who shook the world with his arms that are not suitable for his cute looks, and David Sancious, who Peter Gabriel called “the musician’s musician” and even Stanley Clarke, John McLaughlin, and Billy Cobham covet him. Each genius dances in a crystal clear world of sound. Tal, who was only 22 years old at the time of this live performance, is amazing. She does not give in to Colaiuta and Sancious, who are in their 50s and have accumulated a wealth of glorious achievements and careers, and in the solo in the middle of “‘Cause We’ve Ended As Lovers”, her expression is so rich that you can imagine Jeff and the audience admiring her. In “TOKYO 2009 1ST NIGHT”, she scaled up Jeff’s world with rich bass, but in this work, even the picking nuances are delicate and intertwined seductively with Jeff’s guitar. In “Brush With The Blues”, the bass continues on the playful cymbals that Colaiuta put in, and they play while smiling at each other, and that kind of ease is conveyed even from this work that is just sound. Especially at 22 years old, she is the same age as Jeff when he released “ROGER THE ENGINEER”. She continues to be active after this live performance, and it is scary to think about how many great performances she will leave behind in the future. In the history of “JEFF BECK IN JAPAN”, he was surrounded by the highest level of musicians and gave us the ultimate fulfillment in his 2009 visit to Japan. Not only the two days of his performance with Clapton, but also the first, second and third days of his solo concert were recorded with superb sound. Although this taper only appeared in the bootleg world last year, it continues to break the common sense of “audience recording” and expand its possibilities with each release. This is a masterpiece born because such a genius taper, a genius guitarist and a genius musician shared the same space. Although it was a “purely private” recording that was not intended to be made public when it was recorded, it is a superb live album that is shaking up the history of sound sources.
