Description
The second most famous jazz violinist after Stephane Grappelli is Jean-Luc Ponty. However, his sound is very different from Grappelli’s, and he also changed his style drastically, from modal jazz in his early period, to jazz rock in his mid-period, to fusion in his later years. This DVD contains a 56-minute live performance in a studio in Hamburg that was broadcast on television during the 1972 European tour. This DVD is a must-see for any jazz enthusiast, as it features a superb performance that rivals the performance at Montreux in the same year, in super-beautiful quality that makes you forget the date! Ponty’s work with modal jazz came to an end, and he went back to the United States to take on a new stage by joining the Zappa band and the Mahavishnu Orchestra.
