Description
The March 28, 1960 Düsseldorf performance from the JATP (Jazz at the Philharmonic) tour, started by Verve Records founder Norman Granz, has finally been released on CD. This is a truly historically valuable recording, a must-have item for jazz fans, containing 79 minutes of previously unreleased live music! Starting with a performance by the Coltrane Group, and with Miles Davis absent, Coltrane himself handles the themes and other parts on tenor saxophone, delivering a passionate performance while making full use of the so-called “sheets of sound” technique. The third track, the JATP Feature Ballad Medley, features each member playing a chorus of “Autumn Leaves,” “What’s New,” and other songs. And the highlight of this live performance, the collaboration between Coltrane and Stan Getz, is a must-listen for fans. Fortunately, the sound quality is excellent, so you should be able to fully enjoy the important parts. Don’t forget that the last five tracks on this album feature live recordings of the Stan Getz Quartet, with Lou Revue, who has great chemistry with Getz, participating on piano. Be sure to add this historically significant and valuable recording to your collection! 1. On Green Dolphin Street 2. Walkin’ / The Theme 3. JATP Feature Ballad Medley 4. Hackensack / Rifftide 5.
