Description
Japan in 1982, the place where JAPAN disbanded. The best sound source that represented the tour to Japan is the ultimate upgrade. The traditional sound source was recorded on “December 9, 1982: Nakano Sunplaza Performance”. This is the best audience recording. This visit to Japan is also famous for the legendary FM broadcast, but first let’s check each position on the tour schedule.・December 8th: Nippon Budokan (FM broadcast) ・December 9th: Nakano Sunplaza ←★This work★ ・December 10th: Nakano Sunplaza ・December 12th: Tokyo Welfare Pension Hall (2 performances daytime and night)・December 14th: Osaka Festival Hall ・December 15th: Kyoto Kaikan Hall 1 ・December 16th: Nagoya City Public Hall (dissolution concert) A total of 8 performances. The aforementioned FM broadcast was recorded at Nippon Budokan on the first day, but they held 5 performances in Tokyo alone. The Nakano Sunplaza performance of this work was the second concert of the series. This recording has been known for a long time, and “SONS OF PIONEERS” in particular has been loved as a superb record that allows you to experience the scene of the dissolution tour. This work is also the same traditional recording, but it is neither a copy reissue nor a remaster. It is the ultimate version that has been digitized directly from the original cassette. It is clear that the opening SE “Burning Bridges” is about 30 seconds longer and the whole is 3 minutes longer, so it is different from the conventional version, but that is just evidence of the new master. What is more vivid than that is the sound that runs through the entire story. This is really amazing. The slightly sucked-in hall ringing and the singing voice have an audience-like tone, so you can’t mistake it for a sound board, but it’s not strange to mistake the clarity. Anyway, the air is clear, the core has a vivid outline and goes straight into the ear, and everything from bass to treble is beautifully arranged. In particular, the bass tends to be sparse or explosive, but this work is clear and vivid, and the attack sound has plenty of grit, and the groove that rises from the line is also glossy. Of course, the mid and high tones on top of that are also wonderful, the synths seem to sparkle, and David Sylvian’s singing voice is also very responsive and really sexy. Our store has delivered many famous Kinney recordings, but although this work is not Kinney, it is comparable to that prestigious one. It is truly a timeless recording. Although that clarity could be enjoyed on the previous edition, this work is even more neat and beautiful. Since it was created from the original cassette, there should be no dubbing marks, and the sound is beautiful all the way. It’s completely different from the previous version, which was heavily equalized and was a bit painful to the ears. Moreover, since even the minute details of the sound are preserved, clarity is not compromised even if you do not increase the sound pressure. Even more surprising is the sense of stability. Although the previous version was clear, there was a strange fluctuation in the sound, but this work has none at all. I don’t know whether the cause of the shaking was due to dubbing deterioration or a problem with the accuracy of digitization, but this work of Omoto cassette is crisp and has plenty of natural feeling. I especially feel this in “Nightporter”. Due to the quiet melody, the conventional version has noticeable weak distortion, which is likely to cause dizziness. On the other hand, in this work, although there is a hiss in the weaker parts, there is no shaking at all, and each note of both marimba and synth extends beautifully, making the clarity even more outstanding. It’s a completely different level of stability. What is depicted with such ultimate sound is a passionate performance that is the culmination of a time when the end of JAPAN is near. Speaking of their live album, the traditional official album “OIL ON CANVAS” comes to mind, but this work is a full show including famous songs that can not be heard there. Let’s organize the contents here. ●QUIET LIFE (3 songs)・Quiet Life・OIL ON Songs that cannot be heard on CANVAS: Alien/Fall in Love With Me ●GENTLEMEN TAKE POLAROIDS (4 songs + α)・Gentlemen Take Polaroids/Swing/Nightporter/Methods of Dance・OIL ON Songs that cannot be heard on CANVAS: Burning Bridges (SE) ●TIN DRUM (7 songs)・Sons of Pioneers/Cantonese Boy/Visions of China/Canton/Ghosts/Still Life in Mobile Homes/The Art of Parties ●Others (2 songs)・Songs that cannot be heard on OIL ON CANVAS: Life in Tokyo/European Son…and this is what it looks like. “OIL ON CANVAS” is close to the time as it was a live performance in November 1982, and the composition that emphasizes “TIN DRUM” remains the same. In addition, the number of “QUIET LIFE” and the single songs “Life in Tokyo” and “European Son” have been increased, making it even more comprehensive. ★In particular, “Fall in Love With Me” is a delicious number that cannot be heard even on the Budokan FM broadcast mentioned above. Furthermore, the experience of penetrating at once is also wonderful. “OIL ON CANVAS” also includes new studio recordings, and Budokan FM was also replaced according to the program structure. On the other hand, this work is a genuine one-shot audience recording. Although there is a lack of a tape change at the beginning of “The Art of Parties,” it is only a short time, about the length of one main riff.Other than that, from “Burning Bridges” that announces the start of the show to the outro that ends, it is the culmination of JAPAN. You can enjoy the full show without hesitation. A week later, JAPAN announced their disbandment at their performance in Nagoya, bringing an end to history. This is a live album where you can enjoy such a legendary performance in Japan with the best sound of Omoto cassette. This is a work that is worthy of a cultural heritage, offering a full show experience that could not be expected from official works or historic FM broadcasts.
