Description
Jan Garbarek is a solitary saxophonist, not only in Norway but in Europe. This is the first time that Garbarek’s best members, Eberhard Weber, Rainer Brüninghaus, and Nana Vasconcelos, who were the best members of his long career, have performed in his heyday, capturing the mysterious beauty of the music! ! This rare live performance was held in Reggio Emilia, Italy on March 22, 1988, four months before the recording of the masterpiece “Legend of the Seven Dreams” in Reggio Emilia, Italy, and was recorded over an hour and a half on a high-quality soundboard. This two-disc set has arrived! ! Although there were some noises due to the master, the label’s own careful mastering has improved it to a level that does not interfere with listening. This work perfectly captures the indescribably beautiful stage of the Garbarek Group, which is said to be the most beautiful on earth! The magnificent stage of the Garbarek Group, which is worthy of this big stage, is filled with invisible energy that makes the majestic scenery of the distant ancient times appear before your eyes, and beautiful and magnificent songs filled with romanticism that cannot be expressed in words. Throughout the entire work, Garbarek uses his beloved Selmer tenor and Garbarek’s trademark curved soprano half and half, perfectly blowing that unique, transparent and endlessly expansive tone that you can hear at a glance. He also sometimes uses the Norwegian folk instrument, the Serie flute, which has no finger holes, to show off his dialogue with Nana. Garbarek said that he was greatly influenced by percussionist Nana regarding the format of this quartet, and Nana’s role in this group is very important. He constructed a sound that is hard to believe is being performed by one person, using a diverse percussion set, a Brazilian instrument called berimbau that only he mastered, and a voice that expresses the nature of the Amazon. He also created a unique world with his unique approach, bringing important colors to the music that Garbarek idealizes. As an aside, it is said that Pat Metheny also invited Nana to his group around 1982 to expand the range of his sound. Bassist Weber also created a fantastical and romantic world with his trademark 5-string electric double bass with unique tone phrases, and Brüninghaus also created a fantastical sound with a unique floating space, using a beautiful piano as clear as crystal, a trademark minimal electric piano, and a synthesizer that is comparable to an effective orchestration. The set list was also very attractive, including the epic suite “All Those Born with Wings,” released the year before this performance and recorded almost entirely by Garbarek himself, most of the quartet version, numbers that would later be recorded by the same members on “Legend of the Seven Dreams,” the Spanish-mode “Hasta Siempre,” the masterpiece at the end “Dancer,” and even solos by each member. You can immerse yourself in a sublime performance that encapsulates the charms of Garbarek and the members, and that can be called the ECM sound!
