Description
The live performances at Jaco’s home grounds, 55 Grand and Pier 84 in New York, recorded by TapeTyrant, one of the most famous tapers on the East Coast, have finally seen the light of day. Discs 1 and 2 feature Jaco’s appearance at 55 Grand, a jazz club familiar to Jaco fans, on June 19th, while Disc 3 features a three-hour outdoor live performance at Pier 84, a famous tourist spot on the Hudson River pier in New York. The person who recorded these two live performances is none other than Tapetyrant himself, known as Millard in the West and Tape Tyrant in the East. A taper who was active in the New York area from the mid-80s to the early 90s. He brought his finest recording equipment and performed wonderful audience recordings, focusing on jazz/fusion music. Many of his recordings have been released and all of them are highly acclaimed. After achieving success with Word of Mouth, Jaco changed the lineup of his band and performed in 1983, selecting talented musicians such as Mike Stern, Kenwood Dennard, Don Alias, and Ron Tooley. The aggressive and wild stage, supported by Jaco’s trusted members, is the music that the genius bassist Jaco Pastorius really wanted to play. There is a slight sound cut in the master itself on the fifth track of disc 1, so that part has been edited out.
