Description
This album contains 14 official tracks. We have previously introduced the previously released “EXTRA EARLY TRACKS” album with a similar concept, but it only had 6 tracks. This album is a deep album with an incomparable amount of content. It is best to talk about its depth in detail. Let’s take a closer look at each track. Live recording: Edited version of the “Drifter” live performance This album focuses on the live tracks. Unlike the 3CD album, the live version is recorded first. The first to appear is the marquee live performance of “Drifter”. As mentioned in the CD commentary, there are two types of marquee live performances in 1980, “April 3” and “July 4”, but the take of “April 3” was recorded in an edited version depending on the country. This is the short version. The full version recorded on the 3CD album was “6:02”, but this one is “3:38”. The song ends with a fade-out during the exchange of “Yo, yo, yo, yo♪”. Of course, we didn’t just cut it at our shop, but digitized it from the official analog EP. Live recording: Live performance filmed on home video (9 new songs) Next is the “April 14, 1980 Ruskin Arms performance” 11 days later. This is a live recording that was made official on the DVD “THE EARLY DAYS”. This is also an official take, but the source is a home video. Since it is a microphone recording, it is essentially an audience recording, and it is quite unstable, with sound cuts in “Wrathchild” and “Another Life”. The quality is too different from other official tracks, so it was reprinted in this work. In addition, home video footage called “April 8th” is also used in the history video “12 WASTED YEARS”, but this is the same as “April 14th” in “THE EARLY DAYS”. Studio recording: Broadcast mix of “Running Free” (new) Also newly added is “Running Free” broadcast on the West German famous program “Rockpop”. Like “Top of the Pops” on the main press 3CD, this is a take that was made official in “THE EARLY DAYS”, but this was just a mime with cheers over the studio version (incidentally, that was Adrian’s first job when he joined the band). This could be said to be a different mix, but in reality it was made mono and the sound quality was degraded. It was recorded here because it was reluctant to permanently preserve a take that was simply made poorly. Studio recording: An often overlooked edit difference “Phantom Of The Opera” From here on, the story is for maniacs. This is a different version of the studio version of “Phantom Of The Opera”. This song is a super famous song that is the highlight of “Iron Maiden”, but there are actually two different edits. The original version is “7:21”, but in fact, depending on the country and the reissue, the short version “7:09 (sometimes 7:02 depending on the track division of the record)” may be included. The difference is at the very end. The short version ends with Diano shouting “You torture me back at your lair!” with the band, but the full version repeats “Torture me back at your lair!” a cappella again. This work includes both the original and the short version so that you can use whichever version you have. Studio recording: Unofficial “Transylvania” demo The last one is a demo take from the Diano era that was never made official. Depending on the source, it is either 1979 or 1980, but according to one theory, it is a demo from a session engineered by Guy Edwards. Guy was also the engineer for “Burning Ambition” on the B-side of the single and “Running Free” which was mistakenly included on “AXE ATTACK!”, so it is likely that it was the same session. In that case, the drummer would be Doug Sampson. Although it was a mistake, unlike “Running Free” included in the official compilation “AXE ATTACK!”, this is an unofficial leaked demo with strict quality. Although it would be an unnecessary addition to include in the ultimate compilation that emphasizes “fun to listen to”, these are official takes and demos that certainly existed. This is a deep compilation of them. No matter what version of “Steel Virgin” or “Killers” you have, this is a delicious disc that will allow you to reach “completeness”. 71:11) 1.
