Description
The legendary title that was acclaimed as “the ultimate compilation of the Di’ano era” has evolved greatly! It has been decided to release it on 3 CDs that completely cover the official tracks not included in the original album! This work permanently preserves 2 hours and 52 minutes of official rare tracks from the Paul Di’ano era. It is a 3-disc set that adds 11 tracks to the super-famous “THE ULTIMATE COMPILATION” that was a huge hit. Moreover, the quality is the ultimate. Even the official tracks are recorded without analog transcription as much as possible, and are recorded with zero degradation from digital tracks such as out-of-print CDs. Furthermore, the volume and sound pressure are unified by mastering. This work is divided into a studio version (DSIC 1) and a live version (DSIC 2-3), but it is also organized by the time and type of session. Let’s introduce each section in detail. *Note: The members are the same for all tracks: “Paul Di’ano”, “Steve Harris”, and “Dave Murray”. Side guitars and drums will be added separately. DISC 1 (first half): Studio edition Studio recording: “THE SOUNDHOUSE TAPES” session (side guitar: Paul Cairns / drums: Doug Sampson) DISC 1 is the studio edition. First up is the legendary “THE SOUNDHOUSE TAPES”, which was also IRON MAIDEN’s first recording! The original EP is a treasure called “the holy grail of MAIDEN”, but in terms of “sound reproduction”, it is hard to say that the low-budget cutting due to the semi-amateur era is the best. In this work, we are particular about sound quality, and instead of the original EP, we have recorded from the record (CSK 56882) that was reissued only once on an official CD in 2002. This official CD is limited to 666 copies and can only be applied for by those who bought the entire remaster series. Moreover, it is a very rare CD, as only fans living in the United States can apply. In addition, the outtake “Strange World”, which was recorded during the “THE SOUNDHOUSE TAPES” session but was removed, is also a digital version of “THE BEST OF THE BEAST”. Studio recording: “METAL FOR MUTHAS” session (guitar: Tony Parsons / drums: Doug Sampson) Next up are two tracks recorded for the compilation album “METAL FOR MUTHAS”, “Sanctuary” and “Wrathchild”. These are also taken from the 1996 CD single, which was properly treated with official mastering, rather than the analog LP of the time. This session features Tony Parsons on guitar, and is the genuine original version, different from the remake on the album. In particular, “Wrathchild” is a take with a strong NWOBHM smell that would have been perfect even if it had been included on “Iron Maiden”. Studio recording: Single tracks (2 new songs) Burning Ambition (side guitar: unknown (only Dave?), drums: Doug Sampson) Sanctuary / Women In Uniform / Invasion (side guitar: Dennis Stratton, drums: Clive Burr) Twilight Zone (side guitar: Adrian Smith, drums: Clive Burr) Single B-sides are the basis for rare tracks, and of course this one is perfect. Here, new tracks that were not included in “THE ULTIMATE COMPILATION” have been added, “Sanctuary (Single Version)” and “Twilight Zone”. Both were included on the reissue CDs of “The Steel Maiden” and “The Killers” at one time, but are now excluded from the official album. Like the other singles, they are included in this work. Also, the biggest point here is the different mix of “Women In Uniform”! In 2015, an official analog 7-inch reissue series was released, and this was released to coincide with it. Compared to the take familiar from the CD singles and PVs, this version has no side guitar in the intro and a larger chorus. It’s so different that you can tell right away, but it’s uncredited, making it a true “hidden treasure.” This is also a CD made from the official digital track, not an analog transcription. DISC 1 (Second Half): Studio Live Studio Live Recording: “FRIDAY ROCK SHOW” Sessions (Guitar: Tony Parsons / Drums: Doug Sampson) The second half of DISC 1 is a studio live version recorded for radio and television broadcasts. Even in the very early Maiden’s regular studio recordings, the live feel is strong, so the studio live is quite close to the original. The first recording is a session for the BBC program “FRIDAY ROCK SHOW.” The broadcast take has been used in various compilations, such as “NWOBHM ’79 REVISITED” supervised by Lars Ulrich, and many aircheck boots have been circulated. However, here we have recorded it from the best version of the 2002 out-of-print box set “EDDIE’S ARCHIVE”. Studio live recording: “TOP OF THE POPS” session (2 new songs), Running Free (side guitar: Dennis Stratton, drums: Clive Burr), Women In Uniform (side guitar: Adrian Smith, drums: Clive Burr) Two new tracks are introduced here! These are “Running Free” and “Women In Uniform” from their appearance on the BBC TV program “TOP OF THE POPS”. This program is based on mime, but the story of Maiden’s refusal to appear unless they were allowed to do it live is too famous. “Women In Uniform” is also the first live performance after Adrian Smith joined the band (their first job was appearing on “ROCK & POP” four days earlier, but that was mime). Bonus track In addition, a track with a reputation for being an official release is also included as a bonus. This is a demo version of “Running Free” that was mistakenly included only on the first pressing of the compilation album “AXE ATTACK!”. Since it was a mistake, the exact recording date is unknown, and it is not yet clear whether the guitar was played by Tony Parsons or Dennis Stratton (the drummer is Doug Sampson). Although it is the only analog transcription on DISC 1, the stereo balance has been adjusted for this work, and it has been permanently preserved after eliminating as much incongruity as possible. DISC 2: Concert Live Edition (Dennis era) Live recording: Single “SANCTUARY” track DISC 2 is the “Live Edition”. This disc is fixed as “side guitar = Dennis Stratton / drums = Clive Barr”. At a concert live packed with fans, the performance focused on getting the audience in front of them excited is completely different from a studio live where there are only shills at best. The stage at the Marquee Club, where the single “Sanctuary” is recorded, begins with a passionate “MAIDEN! MAIDEN!” call. Although the credits were unclear at the time, there are actually two versions of the 1980 Marquee Live: “April 3” and “July 4”. Each was assigned separately to singles in each country, which has been a source of confusion for a long time. First, the two songs from “April 3” on the single “Sanctuary”. Live Recording: “LIVE!! + ONE” Tracks These are three songs from the “July 4” live. Only “Phantom Of The Opera” has been digitized, but the only place you can listen to all three songs together is the EP “LIVE!!+ ONE”. This EP is the only IRON MAIDEN recording that has not been officially digitized, and in this work, all three songs have been made into CDs from the excellent condition of “LIVE!!+ ONE” with professional high-end equipment in order to create a sense of unity. Live Recording: “BBC ARCHIVES (Reading 1980)” Tracks The third live is “1980 Reading Festival”. This is from the out-of-print box “EDIIE’S ARCHIVE” that was released in 2002 and quickly sold out. This is the best live performance with plenty of NWBHM smell, such as rough performance that doesn’t care about mistakes, explosive excitement on their first big stage, and “Killers” with temporary lyrics. DISC 3: Concert Live Edition (Adrian era) Live recording: “AT THE RAINBOW” track (8 new songs) DISC 3 is also a “live edition”, and this disc has a new guitarist and is fixed at “guitar = Adrian Smith / drums = Clive Barr”. First of all, the official video “AT THE RAINBOW” produced immediately after recording “Killers”. Until now, there was a semi-professional NWOBHM smell, but now that they have the right people, they have grown rapidly. You can enjoy the stage with a worldwide scale on a stereo sound board. Live recording: “MAIDEN JAPAN” track The last one is the super famous EP “MAIDEN JAPAN”. The standard version of “MAIDEN JAPAN” including the Japanese version included four songs, but in several countries including North America, it was a five-song version with the addition of “Wrathchild”. This work, of course, conforms to the longest North American version, and uses the 1995 Castle reissue, which was the only official digital version, and the best quality was achieved here as well. The above is a collection of 42 tracks and 2 hours 52 minutes 20 seconds of treasures. This is a transcendent 3CD that significantly updates the previous version, which had 31 tracks. There are also other edit versions that are simply shortened and home videos that are only for record value, but this is the complete set of tracks that can be called “official tracks” without any hesitation. This is the ultimate 3-CD set that can be listened to naturally even through the whole set, assembled with meticulous care from numerous official items. You can listen to it as a “new official album” or fill in the gaps in your collection. This is the ultimate album that is on par with the original albums “Iron Maiden” and “Killers”. Here comes the ultimate compilation that covers all the official rare takes from the Paul Di’Anno era. This is a 3-disc set with 11 more tracks than the previous “THE ULTIMATE COMPILATION”, and it is an absolute edition that can complete all the official tracks not included in the original album, such as the first recording “THE SOUNDHOUSE TAPES”, the unreleased “LIVE!! + ONE”, unknown alternative versions, etc. Full-length, ultra-high quality sound board!
