Description

The latest work from Millard Master is a surprising recording of Ian McLagan’s solo stage in 1981. After the breakup of the Faces, he seemed to have become a behind-the-scenes musician, mainly supporting the Rolling Stones, but in 1981 he released his second solo album “BUMP IN THE NIGHT”. The fact that he toured to promote the album after that was probably unknown to anyone other than a real maniac, and from the summer of that year he had a big job of supporting the Stones on their tour. That’s why he toured with his own band for such a short period of time. Who would have thought that Millard had recorded this precious tour? It was only natural for Millard, who had recorded the Stones and the Faces, to head to McLagan’s show, and as a result, his extremely valuable solo stage was recorded with excellent sound quality. However, it was a small gig with band members who were not the front man, and even though it was a live performance at a small venue, Millard probably did not go as far forward as usual. Therefore, the sound image has a slight sense of distance, but the quality of the recording is still superb. This is probably due to the fact that it was a gig at a small venue. This precious stage was performed by members who participated in the recording of “BUMP IN THE NIGHT”, and the drummer was Ricky Futer, who joined the Beach Boys as a regular member in the early 1970s and later played the role of George Harrison in the Rutles, which is a point that enthusiasts should not miss. Since McLagan has very little experience in performing live as the main performer, it is very nice to see him singing hard from the opening. For example, “Little Troublemaker”, which was an acoustic arrangement from his first album “TROUBLEMAKER”, was played electrically by a band for the stage, and the early 80s power pop feel is very good. However, it seems that McLagan himself felt it was difficult to be the frontman and singer alone, so in the middle of the show, he handed the microphone over to Australian female singer Rene Geyer, who also participated in the recording of “BUMP IN THE NIGHT”, and the show turned into an R&B show. Here, she sang “Come On”, which was also the debut song of the Rolling Stones, and this part was also very enjoyable. In the second half of the show, McLagan stood at the front again and finished the gig, but “La De La” from the latest album looked great on stage, and it was amazing that Millard had captured McLagan’s solo gig, which could be said to be a dream. This newly excavated Millard sound source will make rock enthusiasts cry! Perkins Palace, Pasadena, CA, USA 27th March 1981 PERFECT SOUND (55:38) 1. Alligator 2. If It’s Lovin’ You Want 3.
