Description
A live performance recorded in March 1973 at the Jazz Workshop in Boston, known as the “Jazz Hall of Fame” with the Brecker brothers, Will Lee, and others, from an unearthed high-quality master with a quality that will surprise fans. In April of the same year, a two-disc set of recordings of the Finnish International Jazz Jazztival was released on a soundboard. It is a rare sound source that you cannot miss listening to the bass playing of Will Lee, who later became famous as a talented session man. The songs are played with a funky rush that cannot be heard in studio recordings, and you can feel the technique and passion of the band, led by Horace Silver. Furthermore, the young Michael Brecker, who is only 24 years old, has been selected for this live performance, and his play will also be a very valuable early sound source for fans. The performance was performed the year after the release of “In Pursuit Of The 27th Man,” and the fast-paced interaction between Randy and Michael in “Liberated Brother” from the same album is a charm unique to live performances that cannot be heard on the official version. (There is also a scene where Randy Solo’s breathing is unusually off at the beginning). Another highlight of this album is the energetic play by the young rhythm section, Alvin Queen and Will Lee, who seem to be fronting the album. Alvin Queen became one of the most promising drummers in the New York jazz scene at the age of just a teenager. Although Will Lee just started his full-fledged career after being invited by Randy, it is well known that he has been active since then. This is a must-listen title for fans who will be able to reaffirm not only his outstanding songwriting and piano work, but also the great musicianship of Horace Silver, a great figure who discovers and nurtures such talented artists. The important sound quality is also guaranteed, so you can enjoy it with confidence.
