Description
This is a rare live recording of Herbie Hancock. The members’ credits have strange nicknames, which seem to be in Swahili, and are the same as the names of some of Hancock’s studio albums from this period. The studio albums in question are “Mwandishi” and “Sextant,” and this live recording is a compilation of the three titles released between 1971 and 1972, including “Crossings,” and the album that was released after these three titles and became a huge hit was none other than “Head Hunters.” Considering this, the importance of this live recording can be seen. However, it is by no means as catchy as “Head Hunters,” and instead has an experimental, somewhat free jazz and even spiritual atmosphere. There is a funk-like sound in every part of the album. This is a valuable live recording that shows that Hancock was in a transitional period after leaving Miles and graduating from the Blue Note label. In terms of sound quality, the jacket description is “Very Good”, one step below “Excellent”, but this is because there is noise (mainly hiss noise) in many places. The label has further upgraded the new master, which was remastered and edited by overseas enthusiasts. According to the master, it was a sound board, but listening to the cheers between songs, it is probably a sound board. As mentioned above, the content is somewhat aimed at enthusiasts, so if you are a strong person who wants to listen to this content, you can enjoy the sound quality without much problem.
