Herbie Hancock/Live Compilation 1976-2013

Hancock’s rare live video collection has arrived. Contains four videos from 1976 to 2013. The first one is about 29 minutes of DKRC live TV footage from 1976 (a slightly distracting time counter is displayed at the bottom of the screen). It’s a really funky performance with a lineup that probably included Wah Wah Watson from the Headhunters as a guest. I think you’ll enjoy a slightly different sound with Watson doing a great job. The second one is about 11 minutes long and features female vocalist Melody Gardot from the 2008 program “LIVE FROM ABBEY ROAD”. You can enjoy Harvey’s work as a superb arranger and pianist. The third one is about 16 minutes long and is from “KENNEDY CENTER HONOURS HERBIE HANCOCK” held in December 2013. Harvey is just having fun in the VIP seats (Santana and Billy Joel, who also paid a courtesy visit on the same day, are also seated), but on stage he is filled with incredible faces (see back cover), and the show is spectacular. A gorgeous performance will be held. From the sudden appearance of a transcendental quintet, to Snoop’s rapping with Marcus on bass, to the chameleon of everyone, it was a super intense live performance. The last one is about 60 minutes from the Uruguay performance in August 2013. This is the only audience shot. This is a very stable and easy-to-see shot from the second floor seat (?), slightly to the left of the stage. The quartet with Vinny Colaiuta, James Zinas, and Zakir Hussain is a wonderful member that not only has great ability but also clearly shows the current direction of Hancock. It’s a nice shot that conveys the live feel and vibe very well. During Harvey and Zakir’s solos, I get close to them and take pictures. The recording time is 110 minutes with menu chapter specifications.
