Description
Hall & Oates in the “VOICES” era, which was a big hit with “Kiss on My List”. The superb stereo soundboard album is here. This work includes the “Sydney performance on October 16, 1980”. Speaking of 1980, it was the height of their popularity, when they returned to Japan in about half a year. First of all, let’s check the position of the show on the schedule at that time, including the Japanese performance.・January 25-27: UK #1 (6 performances) ・February 1-6: Japan #1 (5 performances) ・May 3: Albuquerque performance ・June 22-July 28: North America #1 (15 performances) 《July 29th “VOICES” released》 ・July 31-August 23: North America #2 (19 performances) ・September 11-24: UK #2 (12 performances) ・September 29-October 9: Japan #2 (7 performances) ・October 14-20: Oceania (4 performances) ←★Here★ ・November 7-December 14: North America #3 (4 performances) This is Hall & Oates’ 1980. They came to Japan in February and September, but immediately after that, their first Oceania tour was realized. The Sydney performance of this work was the second concert. This work, which recorded such a show, is a superb stereo sound board of official class. Even if you say “sound board” in a word, the quality is different and the personality is also various, but in the case of this work, it can be said to be “official excavation type”. The direct feeling of the super-class, the neat mix, the beauty of the sound… all of them are official masterpiece class, but only the rawness is strange. There is no artificial echo processing, and the core that is exposed as if it was recorded directly from the instrument is amazing. If that was all, it would be called “table direct type”, but the balance of the mix is beautiful and the cheers between songs are also grand. It’s just a metaphor, but it feels like “recorded for official work and mixed temporarily for selection”. Of course, such individuality is the preference of sound board enthusiasts. There are ten different types of sound board fans, and for example, in the case of a normal official live album, the production and decoration are conscious of the simulated experience of the concert. This work may seem too raw for those who are looking for such an “official album substitute”, but it is the ideal embodiment for those who are obsessed with “direct from the table”. It feels like a live performance with zero artificiality is played in your brain beyond your eardrums, and like your head has become the concert venue itself. You can enjoy such a different dimension of sound nuance at the highest level. The show depicted with such a transcendent sound is also truly wonderful. The set is a selection from the breakthrough work “ABANDONED LUNCHEONETTE” to the latest work at the time, “VOICES”, but the balance is by no means equal. Featuring the two albums “BIGGER THAN BOTH OF US” and “VOICES”, it is sprinkled with the killer “She’s Gone” and “Sara Smile”, “Wait For Me” and “Intravino” from “X-STATIC”, and Darryl’s “Sacred Songs”. The sense of balance is not just a greatest hits, but a sense of activeness running through the golden age. Also, speaking of Hall & Oates around 1980, there are the official albums “GREATEST HITS LIVE” and “ECSTASY ON THE EDGE”, but this work is full of masterpieces that you can’t hear even in those. “Back Together Again” and “Room To Breathe” are delicious, but they also show “Gotta Lotta Nerve” and “Intravino” that are unique to that time. Of course, “Sacred Songs” is also extremely rare. And the performance is also wonderful. The performance of the backmen is also wonderful, including the familiar Charles Dechant, former BRAND X and RAINBOW member Chuck Burge, Kenny Passarely who also backed Elton John, and the talented Jeff Southworth. “Sweet Soul Music”, where each solo explodes while introducing them, is also excellent. Anyway, it is a soundboard album with a group of masterpieces of the highest quality. This two-disc set features a show that rivals “GREATEST HITS LIVE” and “ECSTASY ON THE EDGE” with a tremendous sense of synchronization with the band. It’s perfect for recalling the performances in Japan at the time, but it’s also a masterpiece of a live album that promises a superb experience even for those who don’t know about that time.
