Description
Gwilym Simcock, a genius pianist who is responsible for the next generation of British pianists and who is said to be the core of the sound of the Pat Metheny Quartet and the successor of great master John Taylor, takes on the challenge of “Children’s Domain”, which represents the classical legend Debussy. Introducing a BBC studio live show featuring an innovative performance with a jazz-influenced arrangement! ! ! Gwilym Simcock is a genius pianist who has followed the elite course of British music education, starting at Cheetham School of Music, then Trinity College, one of London’s three major conservatories, and then entering the prestigious Royal Academy of Music. He was devoted to classical music and had never listened to jazz, but after hearing Keith Jarrett and Pat Metheny by chance, he gradually became more interested in jazz. There, he studied under John Taylor, known as the greatest jazz pianist born in England, and continued to build his career as a jazz pianist while participating in many gigs and deepening his interactions with musicians. During this time, he deepened his relationship with King Crimson’s Bill Bruford, joined Bill’s band Earthworks, and even came to Japan in 2005. After that, after various activities, he was selected to be part of Pat Metheny’s new group and continues to do so today. Simcock was inspired by “The Children”, one of the masterpieces of Claude Debussy, the most influential French composer from the late 19th century to the early 20th century, who established the impressionist music that became the starting point of modern music. On March 24, 2018, he performed a ground-breaking performance of “Corner Suit” (Children’s Domain Suite)+α specially arranged for piano, saxophone, and string quartet with jazz influences. We have now received a wonderful sound record that was completely recorded live in the studio on the highest quality stereo soundboard that has been carefully mastered by the label! ! !
