Description
The monster GUNS N’ ROSES, who had been sharpening their fangs at a local club and waiting for the time of revolution before their debut. The shocking footage that has been talked about as a hidden treasure from Mark Canter’s storehouse has been decided to be released. The footage included in this work is “April 5, 1986 West Hollywood”. It is a staff shot taken at the legendary club “Whisky A Go Go”. Anyway, this work is an incredibly shocking video. Normally, it would be an audience/pro shot, but there is a reason why I chose to call it a “staff shot” this time. In the first place, this video seems to be the 1st gene tape that Mark Canter (Slash’s childhood friend and author of the biography) gave to GEFFEN Records at the time. Not only the history, but also the quality can only be called a “staff shot”. It is a one-camera video shot from the venue height, and the sound is also recorded by a microphone. In terms of categorization, it is an “audience shot”. On the other hand, it is not an “audience video”. Despite the small club, the angle of looking down from a height of about 4 meters makes it hard to believe that it is an audience seat, and the sense of stability that is impossible to achieve with a free hand is abnormal, and the view with zero obstructions is also far removed from the audience. Speaking of 1986, the classic video “THE ROXY 1986” is famous, but it is in a completely different dimension from that violent video. Of course, the beauty of the video is also in another dimension. As mentioned above, it has been digitized from the 1st Gene Master and remastered prior to its release. The glossy screen is extremely natural, and there are no dubbing marks. Although there is an analog feel due to the shooting equipment, it is fresh as if it was taken yesterday. The origin and quality are abnormal, so the introduction has become quite long, but the true value of this work is not there, but the show itself. It is a scorching hot rock with young magma boiling before the debut. How early was it? First, let’s unravel the outline of their activities at that time. 1985 {June: Classic lineup completed} ・June 6th – December 20th: North America #1 (20 shows) 1986 ・January 18th – May 31st: North America #2 (10 shows) ←★Here★ ・July 11th – November 15th: North America #3 (14 shows) {December 16th “LIVE?!☆@ LIKE A SUICIDE” released} ・December 21st – 31st: North America #4 (3 shows) 1987 {January 18th “APPETITE FOR DESTRUCTION” production begins} This is the dawn of GUNS N’ ROSES. The formation and first live show were in March 1985, but the five members we know well gathered in June. The above is the journey from there to the production of “APPETITE FOR DESTRUCTION”. Instead of touring, they performed sporadically at legendary clubs such as “Troubadour” and “Fender’s Ballroom”, but this film was shot in “North America #2”. Let’s focus on the dates here. Details of “North America #2” ・January 4: Troubadour performance *January 18 “THE ROXY 1986” ・February 1-March 21 (3 performances) {March 26: Signed with GEFFEN} ・March 28 + 29 (3 performances) *April 5: Whisky A Go Go performance ←★This work★ ・May 1-31 (4 performances) … and so on. “LIVE?!☆@ LIKE A SUICIDE” did not exist yet, and it was 10 days after the historic contract with GEFFEN. Such a scene is harsh and beautiful. After all, Axl was 24 years old at the time, and Slash was only 20 years old. In particular, Axel is going wild with his blonde hair in full hair metal style, making him look like Sebastian Bach at the time of his debut. And the live performance is full of the scent of the dawn of the era. “Paradise City” starts with a hard part without an intro, and the selection of covers is also unique to the early days. It’s a little different from the classic “THE ROXY 1986”, so let’s compare them at the end and organize them. Appetite for Destruction (8 songs) Out Ta Get Me (★) / Welcome to the Jungle / Think About You / Rocket Queen / Nightrain / My Michelle / Anything Goes / Paradise City Others (7 songs) GN’R Rise: Move to the City / Mama Kin / Nice Boys Use Your Illusion: Don’t Cry / Back Off Bitch Others: Heartbreak Hotel / Jumpin’ Jack Flash *Note: ★ marks songs that were not performed on the classic “THE ROXY 1986”. Even so, it’s amazing. It’s so amazing! We often introduce important records in rock history as “cultural heritage”, but there is no video that fits that description better than this one. A monster band that grew rapidly underground while planning to invade the surface. A miraculous staff shot of the fierce magma erupting from the screen and speakers. Truly a shocking video of the super class. The shocking video before their debut has been released urgently. This staff shot was taken 10 days after the GEFFEN contract, and the zero-obstruction visibility and the incredible stability of the venue camera are amazing. You can witness the youthful, wild performance. Whiskey A Go Go, West Hollywood, CA, USA 5th April 1986 AMAZING SHOT!!! 1. Out Ta Get Me 2. Welcome To The Jungle 3. Think About You 4.
