Description

With the death of Gregg Allman at the age of 69 in May 2017, four of the six original Allman Brothers members were absent, bringing another end to the history of Southern Rock. As a memorial item, this title is a coupling of precious live footage of Gregg’s solo activities with professional shots. First, disc:1 contains a 45-minute recording of the legendary first performance in Japan, July 8th at NHK 101 Hall, from the TV on-air master at the time. This is a special live performance that was broadcast on the “Young Music Show”, and it was made into a DVD directly from a tape that was directly recorded from the on-air at the time. Although there is some distortion at the top of the screen due to aging, the quality is sufficient considering the era, and above all, it is said that the master tape has already been destroyed, so it is very rare. The live performance at the legendary TV studio, which was the largest in the Orient at the time, was a short set of the show from their Japan tour that year, which was made for TV, and started with “Trouble No More”. After that, the show focused on Allman’s numbers, and included songs from “Playin’ Up A Storm” released at the time, and “Come And Go Blues”, which Greg composed on guitar, was performed on Greg’s guitar, and other scenes that were not seen in Allman’s shows. Also, his wife Cher, who was a hot topic as a big couple at the time, accompanied them on the Japan tour and performed on stage together, and here they also performed together on “Move Me” at the end of the tour, which is now a very precious video. In addition, disc:2 includes 55 minutes of professional shot footage from the Nashville Cannery performance on November 11th from the “BULLET FLY US TOUR” accompanying the release of the 1988 album “Just Before the Bullets Fly”, also recorded by the local TV on-air master. First of all, after Allman broke up for the second time in 1982, he was active as the Gregg Allman Band, which had been in the band since 1977, and the following year, this concert was a stepping stone to the Allman Brothers, which would reunite for the third time. He also performed many solo numbers, with a different approach from Allman, focusing on songs from his solo album. However, the highlights are the Allman numbers such as “Don’t Want You No More” and “Statesboro Blues”, where he shows off his passionate vocals. Also, be sure to check out the performances by talented musicians from Muscle Shoals, including Dan Toler, who played guitar in the reunited Allman Brothers. Disc 1 : 01. Trouble No More 02.
