Description

After changing from GFR to Grand Funk and working with Todd Rundgren, they were on the cusp of their big breakthrough album “WE’RE AN AMERICAN BAND” and were on the road to success. This is a nearly complete recording of the performance at the Civic Arena in Pittsburgh on May 10, 1974, from the “SHININ’ ON” tour, with audience recordings of amazing quality for the time. Featuring keyboardist Craig Frost and based on simple arrangements, the live performance features a two-man performance by Farner and Brewer. Starting with “Footstompin’ Music” from their trio days and “Rock & Roll Soul,” followed by early numbers such as “Heartbreaker,” the title number from “SHININ’ ON” and the hit tune “The Loco-Motion” from the four-piece lineup are also included. And at the end of the album, they went back to the repertoire from their trio days, such as “T.N.U.C.”, which features a long solo with Don’s drumming that is unique to live performances, and ended with the old pattern of “Inside Looking Out” and “Gimme Shelter”. 01.
