Description

The new GRAND FUNK has become a four-piece group with the addition of Craig Frost. Introducing the definitive set of the best stereo sound board & professional shot. This work includes “December 23, 1972 New York Performance”. This is a 2-disc set with a live album recording a show at the iconic large venue “Madison Square Garden (MSG)” on disc 1, and a multi-camera professional shot on disc 2. This show is a long-standing classic that was also broadcast on TV, but both of these works are different from the TV version. Let’s introduce each one individually. [Disc 1: Superb Stereo Soundboard] The first thing that appears is a live album with the best soundboard. The MSG performance was not only broadcast on TV, but also on the FM radio station WBCN’s program “ABC IN CONCERT”. This FM version differs in sound and content from the TV version. First of all, the vivid stereo feeling is amazing. The TV version’s mix is very centered, and it’s hard to tell if it’s monaural or stereo just by listening to it, but the FM version is completely different. Each instrument is completely separate, with the organ and guitar attacking from left and right, and phrases spinning around your head. It’s a completely three-dimensional sound. And the songs are also different. Although it is the same show, the selection is different, and you can listen to songs that are not in the pro shot version, such as the Stones cover “Gimme Shelter” and “Footstompin’ Music”. Although it is such an FM broadcast version, this work is its best master. It was recently discovered by the prestigious company “krw_co,” and it was digitized directly from the 1st generation Reel Master. Its freshness is overwhelming, the sound is endlessly beautiful, and the stereo feeling mentioned earlier is also strangely vivid. That is the quality that can be officially released as is. Speaking of the four-member era after Craig Frost joined, there is also the official traditional work “CAUGHT IN THE ACT”, but they also have “Flight Of The Phoenix”, “Into The Sun”, “Get It Together”, “I’m Your Captain”, and “Hooked”. You can enjoy plenty of famous songs that you can’t hear there, such as “On Love”. [Disc 2: Leaked multi-camera pro shot] The replacement disc 2 is a video version of the same show. This is also a multi-camera pro shot of the leaked master, which also includes a work counter, unlike the TV broadcast. Although it is slightly darker than the TV broadcast version, the image quality and master freshness itself are more beautiful than the TV version. What I’m most happy about is the sense of stability. Air checks on TV broadcasts often caused screen disturbances, but this work is extremely stable. Although it’s hard to say that it’s official quality in terms of both sound and image quality, nothing can replace the thrill of seeing GRAND FUNK in multi-camera professional shots, only a year and a half after their legendary first visit to Japan. . The show drawn with such quality is also wonderful. The only song that is different from the FM version on Disc 1 is “Loneliness” of “E PLURIBUS FUNK”, but this is also a delicious masterpiece that cannot be heard on “CAUGHT IN THE ACT”. And the performance was scorching hot. With “PHOENIX”, which introduced keyboards, they started incorporating pop elements, but from there on, only “Flight Of The Phoenix” was released, and the rest were all numbers from the trio era. Mark Farner’s singing voice is eternally soulful, and Don Brewer’s drumming is also powerful. The tough rock that reminds you of the legend’s first visit to Japan explodes, and the keyboard adds flavor to it. GRAND FUNK in 1972 was enjoying a golden age and aiming for even greater heights. This is a definitive edition depicting the MSG performance that became their big stage with the finest stereo sound board and leaked professional shots.
