Description

No need for Evans, Keith, Svensson or Mehldau! The current cutting edge acoustic electronica piano trio Go-Go Penguin. The Boston performance accompanying the release of the album “Everything is Going to be OK” and the BBC live performance with Rob Turner are both coupled in the highest quality sound, making this a must-listen item for the first time! This work replaces the original drummer Rob Turner, and unlike Rob, who is known for supporting the Ethiopian legend Mulatu Astatke, who is known to those in the know, Rob has an unparalleled technique that can be described as mechanical. Unlike Rob, who has the best technique but is more aggressive and powerful with a focus on live performances, John Scott has joined the band. The latest album “Everything is Going to be OK” was released on May 12, 2023 at the Crystal Ballroom in Somerville, Boston, and the last live performance of Rob Turner’s tenure on September 19, 2020 at the BBC Radio Theater in London. Both were recorded on the label’s own carefully mastered high-quality stereo sound (board) and are highly recommended for all music fans who cannot talk about current music without listening to this CD! They originally created songs based on sketches made with sequence software, and by following a production process more like that of a track maker than a player, they retrieved complex phrases that would never be thought of in a normal studio session via laptop, and traced them into the style of a piano trio, creating a dynamism that cannot be expressed by programming, while also incorporating improvisation, and performing a flawless ensemble with a transcendent technique that seems impossible for a human to do, and showing it off at a live performance. The performance skills and rich drawers of each member have reached an incredible level. On the other hand, as the members say, they do not use technique for the sake of technique, the ensemble, like a polished blade, is supported by an aesthetic of subtraction, and they are committed to the possibilities of live performance, and no programming is used at all…In the details, everything from the human-powered drum and bass to the glitch noise at the end of the performance, reminiscent of a computer bug, is reproduced live. Sometimes you may encounter scenes that sound like the needle is skipping, but that is the kind of performance, so please forgive me. It is no exaggeration to say that this rhythm section is at the very top of its class, with Rob’s machine-like precision and superb technique, while the newly joined John’s drums are characterized by a wildness that emphasizes a more lively feel, and both of them are captivating to listen to every sound that comes together…and what’s even better is that the superb sound quality that lets you see every detail of the drums is irresistible! On the other hand, Chris’ piano is also the essence. It’s lyrical and romantic, as if it’s hitting the heartstrings directly! GoGo Penguin, who appeared to replace E.S.T., whose history came to an end with the death of Esbjorn Svensson, is the piano trio, or rather the music, you should listen to now!
