Description
HUGHES TURNER PROJECT (hereinafter referred to as HTP) is a duet HR project by two former DEEP PURPLE members. The best full live album is now available. This work includes the “May 13, 2002: Osaka BIGCAT” performance. This is a masterpiece audience recording. Speaking of HTP’s live album, the official work “LIVE IN TOKYO” comes to mind, but it is another performance on the same tour as that live album. First, let’s check the position of that show on the schedule at that time. ・May 11th: Fukuoka Drum LOGOS ・May 12th: Hiroshima CLUB QUATTRO ・May 13th: Osaka BIGCAT ←★Here★ ・May 15th: Nagoya BOTTOM LINE ・May 16th: Nagano CLUB JUNK BOX・May 17th: Shibuya CLUB QUATTRO / May 18th: Shibuya CLUB QUATTRO A total of 7 performances. In the first place, Glenn Hughes accompanied Joe Lynn Turner’s solo visit to Japan in 2000, which led to the formation of HTP, but at that time there were only 4 performances. They returned to Japan with a hot new project and a significantly increased number of performances. This work that recorded such a show is truly an exquisite audience recording. This is a collection of masters who were active in Osaka from the late 90’s to the early 2000’s, and there are too many masterpieces to list, including RAINBOW’s super masterpiece title “OSAKA 1995 1ST NIGHT”. However, when introducing this work, we cannot avoid mentioning JOE LYNN TURNER with GLENN HUGHES’ masterpiece “OSAKA 2000”. Yes, this work is a sister work by the same recording artist as that masterpiece, and is a literal sequel. In fact, the sound of this work is very similar to “OSAKA 2000”. Anyway, the feeling of being in a small club-sized closed room was overwhelming, and the atmosphere was crystal clear. If the core that runs through the middle is extremely thick, the details will be super clear. As usual, the guitar line is thin, which can’t be helped because it’s a result of the player’s individuality, but the vocals are so wonderful that they make you forget that. Even though the soulful singing voices are intertwined, they are neatly separated, and even the subtleties are clear no matter how much the voices overlap. It’s not just vivid, it’s beautiful even to the moment when the singing voice fades away, and the stability that doesn’t falter in the slightest even when shouting at a screaming level is amazing. The on-site mix is better balanced than in 2000, making it a truly equal combination. The elation created by the singing is not overwhelming, and it feels even more beautiful than the official version “LIVE IN TOKYO”. And above all, I’m glad that the full show is completely recorded. The official version was cut to make it fit on one CD, but this work is a full recording that goes all the way through. You can enjoy plenty of “Challenge Them All” and encore songs “Burn” and “Highway Star” that cannot be heard on the official version. DEEP PURPLE’s famous songs seem to be getting a lot of attention, but “Challenge Them All” is actually really delicious. I think it’s only sung in Japan since it’s a beer commercial song, but Glenn’s chorus work here is superb. Of course, the main character is Joe, and it’s not a duet, but when combined with that strong voice, the melody’s exhilaration is doubled. It’s a wonderful take that shows not only their background as former DEEP PURPLE, but also the great compatibility between the two musically. HTP evolved and updated the “Duet HR” style created by DEEP PURPLE. Like the 3rd and 4th PURPLE, it ended with only 3 albums (the 3rd album “MADE IN MOSCOW” is also available at our store), but the live album is even more valuable. A masterpiece where you can enjoy the full show with the best sound. Live at BIGCAT, Osaka, Japan 13th May 2002 TRULY PERFECT SOUND(from Original Masters) Disc 1(55:12) 1. Intro 2. Devil’s Road 3.
