Description

GIRL is one of the most beautiful bands in NWOBHM. This live album features their first visit to Japan with the best sound. This work includes the performance at Osaka Festival Hall on December 1, 1980. Previously, “LIVE AT THE EXPOSITION HALL, OSAKA, JAPAN” was unearthed, but that was their second visit to Japan after Phil Collen left the band (1982). This work is the first visit to Japan with Phil Collen. First, let’s check the show’s position from the tour schedule. ・November 28: Asakusa International Theater ・November 29: Asakusa International Theater (daytime performance) ・November 29: Asakusa International Theater (evening performance) ・December 1: Osaka Festival Hall [this work] ・December 2: Nagoya City Public Hall A total of five performances. The now-defunct Asakusa International Theater is a nostalgic place, but this work is the Osaka performance that took place after that. The biggest point of this work is the superb sound. In fact, it was the work of a famous recording artist who was once known in Osaka. However, this person became famous in the 1990s. Our shop has been releasing CDs of this master’s works in a series, and many masterpieces such as RAINBOW’s “OSAKA 1995 1ST NIGHT”, RICHIE SAMBORA’s “UNDISCOVERED SOUL IN OSAKA”, SYKES’s “OSAKA 1998”, etc. have been very well received. This work is an early recording of this master. It is a treasure that was made into a CD directly from the original cassette. Of course, there is a difference in equipment only in the 1980s, but his recording skills were amazing from the beginning. Although it is not the type that is called “like a sound board” like the 1990s works, the extremely clear musical tones / singing voices are far more beautiful than any other line recording. The venue acoustics are also slightly clingy, but they are crystal clear without being muddy or cloudy. It is a happy sound where the recording technique that would later earn them the name of “masters” and the beautiful sound of the Osaka Festival Hall, even called “made by God”, met. The quality depicts the passionate performance of the youthful and beautiful GIRL. At the time, there was only their debut album “SHEER GREED”, but they played nine of the 12 songs from that album in full. On top of that, they also performed six songs from “WASTED YOUTH”, which had already been completed (and the record company prevented it from being released), and even “This Town”, “Green Light”, and “White Prophets”, which would end up being shelved from “KILLING TIME”. GIRL playing such a set is extremely fresh. After all, both Phil Collen and Philip Lewis are 22 years old (!). Their musicality, which combines simple rock and roll with elements of boogie, reggae, and new wave, was serious and inappropriate for their age, but the ensemble that plays it is a mass of passion. In particular, Phil Collen lets us hear the passionate playing style that was still considered to be “one of Gary Moore’s successors”. More than them, it is the audience that exudes the “fragrance of the 80s”. It is said that 95% of the audience at the venue were female, and their idol-like popularity is on full display. The yellow squeals cut through the silk, and the neat and tidy applause is exactly like an idol concert. Screams rise over there, and squeals over here. The three-dimensionality of the cheers alone makes every move of the members come to mind. Especially the moment when the super-famous song “Hollywood Tease” was called (the thickness of the musical sound that overpowers the bright yellow squeals is amazing…). GIRL was particularly glamorous and shining in the NWOBHM of the time, which was full of denim and leather and dirty long hair. This is a historic masterpiece that depicts their first visit to Japan with the best audience sound. If you listen carefully, you’ll find it’s tough rock for connoisseurs. But they were also filled with dazzling light. This is a historic album that fans of Def Leppard and L.A. Guns, as well as those who are obsessed with “that era,” should enjoy.
