Description

The Beatles albums were always centered around Lennon-McCartney, but George and Ringo were each assigned one or two vocal songs. It was a reasonable allocation considering their songwriting abilities at the time, but George’s talent gradually blossomed as the years went by. George was the youngest member, and in 1970 he was just a little past his mid-20s, so it can be said that he was a late Beatle. George was probably the one who felt the breakup of the Beatles was the best opportunity. Until then, he had only been allowed to include one or two songs on the album, but now he was able to fully present his own songs to the world as a solo album. Although he had an experimental album such as “The World of Electronic Music,” his first solo rock album, “ALL THINGS MUST PASS,” was suddenly a triple album, as if to vent his frustration at the limited allocations he had during the Beatles era. Furthermore, George’s solo career got off to a good start with the hit singles “My Sweet Lord” and “A Beautiful Life” cut from the album. During this time, George was married to Pattie Boyd, and it is well known that he was inspired by her to create famous songs such as “Something.” However, the marriage between the young George and Pattie gradually fell apart around the 1970s. Above all, his best friend Eric Clapton had a crush on Pattie. At first, Clapton was dating Pattie’s sister Paula, but the song “Layla” by The Dominos was so obvious that Clapton was in love with Pattie that Paula realized that she was a substitute for her sister, and the relationship ended. Clapton’s true love was Pattie, but at the time, he probably never imagined that they would later get married. This series of events happened in the triangle of George, Clapton, and Pattie around 1970. This album was recorded right in the middle of such a period. When you know the background, you can see that the title of this album, “Songs for Patti”, has a deep meaning. It is well known that Clapton participated anonymously in “WHILE MY GUITAR GENTLY WEEPS” on the White Album, but the recording of “ALL THINGS MUST PASS” was fully participated by Clapton and other members of the Dominos, and in addition to Ringo and Billy Preston, the album was produced by Phil Spector, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of the Get Back sessions. This album contains the acetate recording of “ALL THINGS MUST PASS”. Even though it is an acetate recording, the needle noise has been neatly removed, and it is of a quality that can be used as an alternate album as it is. 01. Wah Wah (take 3) 02. My Sweet Lord 03.
