Description

An unreleased cassette tape of a second-row recording that had been drifting for 30 years! The only completely sold-out show of the Japan tour, the legendary Fukuoka performance, where a perfect performance was presented, is here! Newly excavated recordings befitting the 30th anniversary of George Harrison and Eric Clapton’s Rock Legends Japan Tour are here. Needless to say, this tour is a legend in rock history that was only performed in Japan! For that reason, many audio sources and videos remain, but the number of audio sources from the Fukuoka performance among the 12 performances of this tour is extremely small, and it is considered the most difficult among Beatles archive collectors. Although it was such a great performance that George, who gained confidence from this show, decided to officially record the second half of the tour, it has only been released as a collector’s edition a few times in the past. It was such a rare performance. The Fukuoka performance was the only completely sold-out show out of all 12 Japan tours. In addition, George, who received enthusiastic cheers for his wonderful performance at the Hiroshima concert on December 6th, spent the anniversary of John’s death on December 8th relaxing in Hakata, and this important concert was a great opportunity for him to come back to Fukuoka with plenty of energy and rest. Therefore, the concert that our label should release to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the tour was “Fukuoka after all,” and we borrowed the master cassette from a enthusiast who came to Japan from the United States to watch this tour at the time, and digitized it, which is the title of this album. From here on, we will look back on the Fukuoka concert while interweaving the memoirs of an American taper. Taper K. lives in New Jersey and was an important contributor to Good Day Sunshine (GDS), a fan club on the East Coast of the United States that published a fanzine with over 3,000 copies. He also served as a DJ for the Beatles’ show on FM station B-103 in New York, and came to Japan to watch this tour that was only available in Japan. Charles, the chairman of GDS, was coming to Japan a few days later to watch the Tokyo Dome concert, so he contacted George Harrison’s associates in Fukuoka and was given a ticket for the second row center (there is also a vivid exchange in which George’s tour manager stops Mr. K, a taper at Old Brown Shoe, while he is filming the stage with his camera). According to Mr. K, the situation at the front of the audience that day was mostly young Beatles fans in their late teens to late twenties (probably Japanese fan club members), and George was in a good mood many times to respond to their young cheers, which then led to even more cheers, which can be clearly seen through this recording. Mr. K recorded using two cassettes on a Sony Walkman, and it can be confirmed that he was so close that it was easy to imagine the series of moving scenes in which the audience erupted at once when the lights went down, and the band members, including Clapton, went on stage first and played the intro to I Want To Tell You, during which George appeared on stage. Please forgive the cuts in Pretending due to tape changes, the rustling sound of the Walkman during Eric Clapton’s solo set, the cuts during the auto-reverse in Cheer Down, and the slight muffled sound throughout, as these were taken in the audience seats close to the stage, which is difficult to record, but still, the off-mic sounds and the shouts and cheers that went up every time George and Clapton moved on stage make this a very realistic audience recording. I’m really grateful that they unearthed this tape for the first time in 30 years and provided it to us! Now, as for the live performance, which is the most important part, it was a performance that was comparable to the Hiroshima performance, which is considered the best. There were also a lot of MCs, and as George said in While My Guitar Gently Weeps, “Eric Clapton is the best,” you will be overwhelmed by the unity and perfect play of George, Eric, and the band. If you listen to this disc, you will understand how great the performance was. This is the master cassette of the Fukuoka concert, provided by Mr.K with the thought that “Mr.K gives you a “second row seat” to the Rock Legends.” It has been opened after 30 years of drifting and is now reprinted. Let’s be moved together by the second row recording, where you can feel every move of George and Eric on stage.
