Description

GENESIS reached a new horizon in 1981, when “ABACAB”, with engineer Hugh Padjam, reached number 7 in the United States. Introducing a live album where you can fully experience the tour as they climb the ladder of success. This work includes “Milwaukee performance on November 16, 1981”. This is the best audience recording. There is an image that GENESIS in the 80’s parallels the solo activities of the members, but in 1981, Phil Collins’ “FACE VALUE” was only released and there was no solo tour. The world tour of the main business GENESIS was held on a large scale. First, let’s check the show’s position from the schedule. [“ABACAB” released on September 14th]・September 25th – November 2nd: Europe (33 performances)・November 12th – December 11th: North America (25 performances)←★Here★・December 17th Sun-23rd: UK (7 performances) This is GENESIS in 1981. Among them, the Milwaukee performance of this work is the fourth performance of the “North American” leg. “ABACAB TOUR 1981” was also the basis for the official work “THREE SIDES LIVE”, but its main event was the New York performance on “November 28th and 29th”. This work is about the second week of the concert. This work, which records such a show, is truly a masterpiece. The evidence of the audience is engraved in the raw enthusiasm and snare tone, but the core is on and strong, the outline is clear, and the details are delicate. What is especially surprising is how clear it is. The MECCA Arena, where the scene took place, has a capacity of approximately 10,000 people, and is comparable to the Yokohama Arena or the Yoyogi Olympic Pool in Japan. However, the sound flowing from this work is incredibly transparent, with very little hall noise, as if it was an outdoor recording with zero echo. Furthermore, the sense of stability is also outstanding. There’s no tape warping or age-related deterioration, and the crisp sound makes you wonder, “Is this really 1981?” in your head. I don’t forget that it is an audience in terms of tone, but it is a beautiful recording that is more beautiful than most radio broadcasts. The sound is 1981 apart, but the show is definitely 1981. As mentioned above, “ABACAB TOUR” is the basis of “THREE SIDES LIVE”, but the official product is not intended to be a complete reproduction of the stage, neither the live album nor the video, and is assembled from various shows. I did. On the other hand, this work is a one-shot recording of the whole thing at once. To summarize the set… ●SELLING ENGLAND BY THE POUND (2 songs)・Firth Of Fifth, I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe) ●THE LAMB LIES DOWN ON BROADWAY (2 songs)・The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway, The Carpet Crawlers ●A TRICK OF THE TAIL (2 songs)・Dance On A Volcano, Los Endos ●DUKE (4 songs)・Behind The Lines, Duchess, Misunderstanding, Turn It On Again ●Abacab (6 songs)・Dodo/Lurker, Abacab, Me and Sarah Jane, No Reply At All, Man On The Corner, Who Dunnit? Other/Medley: In The Cage/The Cinema Show/The Colony of Slippermen/Afterglow…and like this It has become. The foundation that is studded with famous songs from “SELLING ENGLAND BY THE POUND” to “A TRICK OF THE TAIL” is the essence of the three-man GENESIS, but there is plenty of repertoire of “DUKE” and “ABACAB”. The 80’s feel is overwhelming. Of course, there are also “Behind The Lines” and “Turn It On Again” that were played on the reorganization tour, but everything else is limited to the 80s. “Duchess,” “Me and Sarah Jane,” and “No Reply At All” are rare songs from that time, and we also include “Dodo/Lurker,” “Man On The Corner,” and “Who Dunnit?,” which survived until “MAMA TOUR.” I keep pushing it. Each song has a strong sense of the times, but the sheer volume of the songs gives you the immersive feeling of floating in a sea of 80’s sounds. Although it is often talked about as the “Three-man GENESIS,” that era was broadly divided into two, and 1981 was the time of change. The turning point was when they parted ways with David Hentzel, who had been the brain behind “A TRICK OF THE TAIL,” and welcomed Hugh Padjam. This is a live album where you can experience the “ABACAB TOUR” with the finest sound, with the wind of change blowing into the stage, and the dynamism with progressive classical music becoming even more vivid.
