Description
The “DUKE” era was a time when they were still very progressive, even though they had a hugely popular No. 1 success in the UK with a stronger pop tone. The super best soundboard album is now available. This work includes “Sheffield performance on April 17, 1980”. 1980 was also the time when the three members began to actively pursue solo activities. First of all, let’s look back at the turning point from the activity schedule and check the show’s position. [“SMALLCREEP’S DAY” released on February 15th]・March 13th-23rd: UK #1 (11 performances) “DUKE” released on March 24th》・March 24th-April 24th: UK #1 2 (32 performances) ←★Coco★・May 27th – June 30th: North America (35 performances) [Production of “FACE VALUE” started in June] This is GENESIS in 1980. The album “DUKE” was completed at the end of 1979, but before its announcement, Mike Rutherford’s “SMALLCREEP’S DAY” was released. “DUKE TOUR” started immediately after that. The Sheffield performance of this work is the 25th concert of the first half of such a tour, “UK #2”. Such a show was broadcast on FM and has reigned as a classic that has produced many previous episodes. This work is the highest peak of that. It is a “TM Productions” master that received the highest rating on overseas GENESIS specialty sites. In fact, “DUKE TOUR” has three top soundboards, two of which are very popular at our store as “PERFECT LYCEUM” and “PERFECT MONTREAL”. This work is a masterpiece that ranks alongside those two masterpieces. This is the last book in the trilogy. In fact, the sound of this work is ultimate. The tone feels a little noisy in the first 20 seconds (the first few bars), but that’s not a fault, it’s just the sound of the scene. It immediately becomes official-level glossy, and the perfect sound unfolds. Its beauty and vividness clearly exceeds the standard already released group, and the recording, mix, and freshness are perfect. Moreover, since it is an FM broadcast, the cheers between songs are appropriately mixed, and it is a sound that can be officially released as is without any questions or answers. The quality can only be described as “please listen to it already”, but the show drawn with that sound is also exquisite. They line up a series of famous songs from “SELLING ENGLAND BY THE POUND” to “AND THEN THERE WERE THREE”, in which they were first introduced, and the early “Dancing With The Moonlit Knight / The Carpet Crawlers”, as well as the promise of later years. The medley of “In The Cage/The Colony of Slippermen/Afterglow” in the middle of the song has a really dramatic feel. Even if it becomes pop, its core remains progressive. And, this tour is the peak of the performance skills that have been honed over the years. With this exquisite ensemble, there are plenty of songs such as “One For The Vine,” “Deep In The Motherlode,” and “The Lady Lies,” which will not be played again, as well as “The Carpet Crawlers” and “Say It’s Alright Joe,” which you won’t hear on “PERFECT MONTREAL.” You can enjoy it. And, after all, the biggest highlight is the latest work “DUKE” section placed in the middle of the show. Like the A-side of the album, it opens with three consecutive hits: “Behind the Lines,” “Duchess,” and “Guide Vocal,” followed by the top B-side, “Turn It On Again,” and, like the album, highlights “Duke’s Travels” and ” Finish with “Duke’s End.” The flow that concentrates the essence of the masterpiece “DUKE” is so wonderful that it is understandable that there are maniacs who say “DUKE TOUR is the best!” Moreover, “Guide Vocal” is a truly rare song exclusive to this tour. All of them can be enjoyed on the super-fine stereo sound board. In their albums, GENESIS evolved into a more pop-friendly and approachable band, and on stage, they deepened their refined ensemble. “DUKE TOUR”, where the balance between the two reached its peak, is an ultra-superb stereo soundboard album that becomes the peak trilogy.
