Description

“SELLING ENGLAND BY THE POUND TOUR” was one of the pinnacles of the Peter Gabriel era. An upgrade master that lets you experience the scene with the best sound is now available. This work includes the “March 3, 1974 Tower Theater performance”. The “Tower Theater” is world famous as a famous venue in Philadelphia, but its exact location is on the Upper Darby side of the city border. This is a vintage audience recording recorded at that famous venue. Speaking of 1974, both the peak “Moonlight Knight” and “Dazzling Broadway” tours were held in the Peter era GENESIS, but this work is the “Moonlight Knight”. First of all, let’s check the position of the show from the overall picture. ●1973, September 19-30: Europe #1 (7 performances)《October 13th: “Moonlight Knight” released》・October 6-31: UK #1 (17 performances)・November 7th-December 20th: North America #1 (26 performances)●1974, January 13-20: UK #2 (6 performances)・January 26th-February 12th: Europe #2 (12 performances)・March 1st-May 6th: North America #2 (46 performances)←★Here★《August: “Dazzling Broadway” production begins》This is the whole view of the wonderful “SELLING ENGLAND BY THE POUND TOUR”. There are some vague points in the records at that time, so the details such as the number of performances are not strict. Even though it is said that there were three performances at the beginning of the “North America #2” leg at the Tower Theater, there are various theories as to whether they were on different days or two performances on the same day. This work adopts the currently most plausible “afternoon performance on March 3 (first stage)” theory. Such a show recording has been known for some time, but this work is neither a copy nor a remaster. The previously released group has been sourced from the 3rd generation at best, but this work is a low-generation master that was recently excavated. It is an upgraded version that has been directly digitized from there. The sound is truly exquisite. Although it has a vintage feel with a pillow word “for the 70s”, the beautiful and robust core is on and the details jump into your ears. Furthermore, the freshness that is different from before is overwhelming. The previously released group had many masters with only high tones that were kinky, perhaps because the mid-low tones were lost during the dubbing process, but this work has excellent balance and freshness. The mid-range, which was difficult to hear until now, is also very responsive, and the bass can be clearly felt up to the baseline. This is not just an upgrade that “the mid-bass can be heard”. The mid-bass recorded in the previous group was slightly distorted, but this work is crisp. For example, it is possible to raise the mid-bass that has already been released by equalizing. However, it is not possible to adjust the distortion of the sound and recover the lost subtleties like this work. The beautiful performance that was left behind because it is a low-gene master overflows from the speakers. And it is glad that it is “SELLING ENGLAND BY THE POUND TOUR”. GENESIS in the Peter era embodied theatrical symphonic progressive, but this tour is particularly popular. Of course, the next “Broadway Tour” is groundbreaking, but since the theme is a complete reproduction of the two-disc story, the variety of early GENESIS masterpieces could not be expected. On the other hand, this tour allows you to enjoy plenty of repertoires of the three series “Mysterious Antique Music Box”, “Foxtrot”, and “Moonlight Knight”, which embody the ideal of symphonic. Moreover, this work is ideal among them. During the Peter era, GENESIS was in the band’s growth period, and the more they played, the better their performance and expressiveness became. “SELLING ENGLAND BY THE POUND TOUR” was also the end point, and this work’s Upper Darby performance is the latter half of that. Moreover, after a half-month break from the previous “Europe #2”, they are not tired and are eager to start a North American tour that British bands should conquer. These merits were also enjoyed in the ultimate soundboard album “DEFINITIVE MONTREAL 1974 (Virtuoso 268/269)”, but in addition to the experience that can only be achieved by recording the audience, this work also allows you to enjoy “More Fool Me”, which cannot be heard even on that super famous album. GENESIS during the Peter era was a historic existence that produced countless followers more than any other progressive band. Their own destination was “Dazzling Broadway”, but it can be said that it was the three consecutive works up to “Moonlight Knight” that most fascinated the world. This work is a masterpiece of a live album that can be set at the scene with the best sound.
