Description
GENESIS in 1983, when each member’s solo activities became more active and the family began to dominate the music industry. This live album will give you the best experience of the main tour. This work is recorded in “Greensboro performance on December 11, 1983”. It is an excellent audience recording recorded at one point of “THE MAMA Tour” accompanying “GENESIS”. As mentioned above, during this period, Phil’s solo activities were active and Tony Banks also released a solo work. It was a time when activities were gradually becoming complicated and overcrowded. Let’s start by checking the position of the show from the schedule at that time, including the circumstances around that. 1983, January 22nd-February 20th: Phil’s solo tour {April/June “THE WICKED LADY” and “THE FUGITIVE” released} {October 3rd “GENESIS” released} November 6th-December 17th: North America #1 (35 performances) ←★Here★ 1984, January 6th-February 20th: North America #2 (31 performances) February 25th-29th: UK (5 performances) ←※Official video {May “NO JACKET REQUIRED” production begins}This is GENESIS in 1983/1984. Although “THE MAMA Tour” was a world tour in appearance, it was actually limited to three countries: the UK, the US, and Canada. The North American tour was in two parts, with the New Year holidays in between, but this work’s Greensboro performance is the former. It was the 30th performance of “North America #1”. This show has been known for a long time for recording, but this work is known as the best of them all. It is a masterpiece that was digitized from the original master recorded with the “Marantz recorder + Shure microphone” setting, and while it completely records the show, it is also the best version in terms of sound. In fact, the sound is a beautiful recording that is neat, clear, and vivid. According to Taper, it was recorded from a position just 6 meters from the stage, and the direct feeling is tremendous. If you listen to it with headphones, you can see that there is a sense of space, but that is also limited to the tone. The air is transparent even to the fine details, and there is almost no hall noise, and the cheers of the popularity peak do not come between the performance and the three-dimensional feeling that is carried from the back. Moreover, this recordist has also put in another effort to make the most of the direct feeling. This work is a type where the extremely thick performance sound dominates everything, but it was not ironclad at the recording stage, and there were parts that were bothered by the surrounding noise. There was a lot of noise in some of the songs, such as “Dodo” shortly after the park opened, and the highlights “Turn It On Again” and “Misunderstanding”, but those scenes were edited with a separate recording that was recorded simultaneously on a Sony Walkman. This live album records the full show, which lasts for 2 hours and 37 minutes, in a perfect system. The full show is impressive because it was in the midst of a huge hit. The symbol of this tour is the official video “THE MAMA TOUR”, which is exactly what it sounds like, but it was also incompletely recorded, which was common in videos of that time. Let’s organize the set by comparing it here. Abacab: Dodo/Lurker (★)/Abacab/Man On The Corner (★)/Who Dunnit? (★)/Keep It Dark Genesis: That’s All/Mama/Illegal Alien/Home By The Sea/Second Home By The Sea/It’s Gonna Get Better Others: Dazzling Broadway: The Carpet Crawlers (★)/Trick of the Tale: Los Endos (★)/And Then Three Remained: Follow You, Follow Me (★)/Duke: Misunderstanding (★)/Others: Eleventh Earl Of Mar Medley (★)/In The Cage Medley/Turn It On Again Medley *Note: Songs marked with “★” cannot be heard in the official video “THE MAMA TOUR”. …And so it is. The official work “THE MAMA TOUR” was aimed at featuring new songs, but this work records the full show as it is. That said, the show itself is clearly focused on the latest hits, thoroughly following the two recent albums “ABACAB” and “GENESIS”. In addition to the limited songs “Illegal Alien”, “Keep It Dark”, and “It’s Gonna Get Better” only available on this tour, you can also enjoy “Dodo/Lurker”, “Man On The Corner”, “Who Dunnit?”, which will not be played afterwards, and even three medleys. After such a full show, this work closes with a radio commercial “WKZL-FM Commercial” announcing the live. It is a three-disc set with a mood unique to 1983. GENESIS has been pushing forward with pop over its long history, but it was during the Hugh Padgham trilogy “ABACAB”, “GENESIS”, and “INVISIBLE TOUCH” that it accelerated as if it was defiant. This work is an entertainment masterpiece that allows you to experience “THE MAMA Tour” which rushed towards such a climax. An excellent audience recording of the “December 11, 1983 Greensboro performance”. This is a masterpiece digitized from the original master, and while recording the show in full, it is also the best version in terms of sound. The beautiful sound is neat, clear, and vivid, and the direct feeling recorded from a position just 6 meters from the stage is also tremendous. The transparent air even in the fine parts has almost no hall noise, and the cheers of the popularity peak do not come between the performance and the three-dimensional feeling of carrying it from the back. The official video “THE MAMA TOUR” contains plenty of masterpieces that you cannot hear, and it is a masterpiece that allows you to experience the full show full of big hits of “ABACAB” and “GENESIS”.
