Description

Steve Hackett’s last “WIND & WUTHERING Tour”. The finest soundboard representing the world tour that produced the masterpiece “SECONDS OUT” has been upgraded. Two works polished by “GRAF ZEPPELIN” mastering have been decided to be released simultaneously. This work is engraved with the first of such two consecutive works. It is a superb stereo soundboard recording of “Southampton performance on January 20, 1977”. This week, two symbolic soundboards will be released simultaneously on the “WIND & WUTHERING Tour”, and the super masterpiece “DEFINITIVE ZURICH 1977” also reigns as a major classic in our shop. In order to understand each position, let’s first look back on the schedule at that time.・January 1st-23rd: UK (21 performances) ←★Here★・February 2nd-May 1st: North America (45 performances) ←※SAN FRANCISCO 1977・May 10th-22nd: South America (12 performances)《May 20th “SPOT THE PIGEON” released》・June 2nd-July 3rd: Europe (22 performances) ←※DEFINITIVE ZURICH 1977《Steve Hackett leaves》《October 14th “SECONDS OUT” released》This is GENESIS in 1977. The album was released in December 1976, but the tour started on New Year’s Day 1977, when the year was changed. To start with, they toured their home country of England, and this work’s Southampton performance was the 17th performance. Such a show has long been a staple of the best soundboards, and as a masterpiece, it has been upgraded over the years. Among them, the highest peak master of all time was unearthed in 2009. It was our “WINDY DAY SOUTHAMPTON (Virtuoso 061/062)”. It has long been called “official grade”, but the master sound with an even more direct feeling was so wonderful that it was upgraded from “excavation official grade” to “official masterpiece grade”. This work is the highest peak update of the classic sound board with such a history. It is a new standard suitable for the anniversary year of the 45th anniversary of the show. The basis of such a work is the current best “WINDY DAY SOUTHAMPTON” master. It was polished with meticulous mastering by “GRAF ZEPPELIN”. The upgrade master was unearthed for “SAN FRANCISCO 1977 1ST NIGHT” released at the same time, but the “WINDY DAY SOUTHAMPTON” master still did not give up the throne. And the polishing is overwhelming. If you have read this article, you may have experienced the “GRAF ZEPPELIN” remaster, and its characteristic is “obsessive precision”. Pitch correction does not allow random changes, and phase deviation is pursued and corrected to 1/1000 seconds. Even the slightest momentary noise is carefully removed one by one, and the balance is adjusted by band analysis. In fact, the master of “WINDY DAY SOUTHAMPTON” is “official masterpiece class”, so it is not “altogether different”, but its precision is definitely the highest ever. It has updated the best quality in existence. To be honest, you may not feel it much, but for example, gap noise processing. If you also have “WINDY DAY SOUTHAMPTON”, I would like you to listen and compare around 6:10 of “Robbery, Assault And Battery” and around 8:37 of “Firth Of Fifth”. However, please use headphones, not speakers. There are minute gaps that can only be seen by concentrating, and this work is also beautifully arranged. Of course, this is just one example. It is also a very trivial example that I want you to be surprised that “Even to this extent!?” Such points have been fixed so much that they cannot be listed in the entire two-disc set. Another thing to mention is that low-frequency hum noise may be easy to understand. This also extends to the entire album, but even in the conventional version, the only thing you may notice is the silence between songs. In this work, such trivial noise has been neatly removed. This has increased the “depth of silence” in the performance parts, and has also led to an unconscious upgrade that “I don’t know why, but I feel like the contours of the performance have become clearer.” Such a high-end sound is drawn, which is a full show that is different from “DEFINITIVE ZURICH 1977” at the beginning of the tour. Let’s organize the set while comparing it here. Trick of the Tale・Squonk/Robbery, Assault & Battery/Dance On A Volcano/Los Endos Storm of Silence ・One For The Vine(*)/Your Own Special Way(★*)/…In That Quiet Earth(*)/Afterglow/Eleventh Earl Of Mar(*)/All In A Mouse’s Night(★*)Gabriel Era Classics・The Musical Box (Closing Section)・Foxtrot: Supper’s Ready・Moonlit Knight: Firth Of Fifth/I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe)・The Carpet Crawlers/The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway ※Note: Songs marked with an “*” cannot be heard on “SECONDS OUT”. Songs marked with an “★” cannot be heard on the later representative SBD “DEFINITIVE ZURICH 1977”. …And so on. The final set of “Your Own Special Way” is delicious, but the more important point is the new song “All In A Mouse’s Night”. Not only was it not performed on the later tour, but it is a limited song only for the “UK” leg. You can enjoy such a rare song on a completely official sound board. If the previous edition “WINDY DAY SOUTHAMPTON” is “official masterpiece class”, this work may be called “official high-quality CD class”. In other words, it is an upgrade from the perspective of “approaching the master tape to the limit” like the prestigious MSFL and Nimbus in the official area. Because it is a sound board comparable to the official masterpiece, the “ultimate sound” that could be pursued (remaster memo) REMASTERED BY GRAF ZEPPELIN Phase correction Disc 1 3Tr around 6:10, Disc 1 5tr around 8:37 and 5-6 other gap noise removal Correction of low pitch until around 4:20 seconds at the beginning of Disc 1 Low frequency noise removal (mainly Disc 1). I think this makes it feel a little cleaner. The part where the mono drop-down at the beginning of Disc 2 was replaced with a stereo of a different master, and a superb stereo sound board recording of “January 20, 1977 Southampton performance”. This is the highest peak update board that has been further refined by the meticulous mastering of “GRAF ZEPPELIN”. Pitch correction does not allow random changes, phase deviation is pursued and corrected up to 1/1000 seconds, and the balance is also adjusted by band analysis. The gap noise of “Robbery, Assault And Battery” and “Firth Of Fifth”, which you would not notice unless you use headphones, is also beautifully arranged, and you can enjoy the full show only at the beginning of the delicious tour with “Your Own Special Way” and the super rare “All In A Mouse’s Night”.
