Description

A new discovery of “THE LAMB LIES DOWN ON BROADWAY TOUR” which has suddenly become popular recently. Among them, a super masterpiece representing the European leg, which is known as an unexplored region, is born. This work includes “March 1, 1975 Dijon Performance”. This is the best audience recording. Unlike “Tommy” and “The Wall,” this “dazzling Broadway tour” has no repeats and shines like no other. For some reason, in 2020, 45 years have passed, the audience’s decision board has been released one after another. Our store has archived many masterpiece live albums, but the most important one for the collection is the “European” leg, and this work is the highest peak of it. In order to explain the meaning of “most important”, let’s first look back at the overall picture of the Century Story Tour and confirm the show’s position. 1974《“Dazzling Broadway” released on November 18》・November 20-December 18: North America #1 (26 performances) 1975・January 9-February 4: North America #2 (19 Performances) ・February 19th – April 12th: Europe #1 (34 performances) ←★Here ・April 14th – May 2nd: UK (16 performances) ・May 8th – 24th: Europe # 2 (13 performances) This is a panoramic view of “THE LAMB LIES DOWN ON BROADWAY TOUR 1974-1975”. It is roughly divided into the “first half = North America” and “the second half = Europe,” and the latter half can be subdivided into “Europe,” which is continental Europe, and the home country “Britain.” Under such circumstances, the Dijon performance of this work was the 9th concert of “Europe #1”. So why is Europe so important? It’s in the recording situation. As I have mentioned many times before, the “Dazzling Broadway Tour” is a famous place for the finest line recordings even in the Peter Gabriel era. A number of official soundboard albums have appeared. However, most of them are from the “North American” tour, with the only exception being “DEFINITIVE LIVERPOOL 1975” in the home country of England. In other words, only “Continental Europe” is not blessed with a full sound board. Perhaps due to this desire, recent excavations have been actively unearthing masterpieces from continental Europe such as Annecy performances and Munich performances, but they are one step further in terms of quality. Unfortunately, there were only live albums that did not reach permanent preservation. In fact, the quality of this work is superb. Although it is similar to the British version “SOUTHAMPTON 1975” which was permanently preserved earlier, this work is even clearer and has a glossier sound. For those who don’t know about “SOUTHAMPTON 1975”, it is a type that slightly absorbs the sound of the hall, but does not create a sense of distance, and produces only thickness and dynamism. In any case, there is no sense of distance at the core, and the snare, which tends to give off an audience-like feel, has plenty of density from one shot to the next. It would not be surprising if such a powerful recording in the 70’s caused chatter or cracking in the bass, but this work has none of that, and while it retains a sense of fantasy, the performance and singing voice are clear and unique to the audience. It’s a beautiful recording. What’s even more surprising is that it’s almost a complete story. In fact, the encore “The Musical Box” and “Watcher of the Skies” are greatly lacking, especially the former, which is only recorded for less than three minutes at the end, so it is not a complete version of the show, but that is not a problem. There are no defects in the essential “Dazzling Broadway” part (technically speaking, there may be a cut in “The Waiting Room”, but there is no sense of incongruity at all). If you have collected the guest record of this tour, you will probably find it interesting, but recordings where you can listen to the long story without any omissions are extremely rare. It is filled with plenty of luxury that could not be enjoyed even in the recently popular “SOUTHAMPTON 1975” and “BERKELEY 1975”. To add more, even the performance of the show is amazing. Even on a very famous site for GENESIS collectors, it was praised as “this performance to be the best of the lot…pretty good”, and the tight ensemble and rich vocalization are certainly outstanding. Best of all, they did two encore songs. This tour usually has only one encore song after “Dazzling Broadway”. However, on this day, they played two major songs, which shows how satisfied they were (as mentioned above, this part was incompletely recorded). A masterpiece that is the pinnacle of the continental European version where there is no full sound board…this is it. You can fully experience the long story with the highest quality, and it is a great performance that is recognized by completers. When it comes to “one guest book from a Broadway tour,” there is no other choice than this one. A representative work of such dimension.
