Description

“The Evil Jam” is the original title of The Waiting Room. The second song in the second half of “The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway” is an instrumental number full of improvisation that is positioned as a bridge from Lilywhite Lilith to Anyway. The song evolved from an improvisational jam, and was created by Tony Banks. According to an interview, during the session, they turned off all the lights in the studio and performed in the darkness, deepening the dark image of the song. The Waiting Room is the only instrumental in “The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway Tour” that responds to rhythm-free improvisation, and its content, including performance time, differs from performance to performance. This album is a high-quality live compilation of The Waiting Room released by the person who edited “REHEARSAL TAPES 1973-1974” released this week, and by listening to it in chronological order like this, you can get a sense of the time and place. You can enjoy not only the difference in performance but also the transformation of The Waiting Room in a live performance with a realistic sound image. Some of the hiss noise was removed and the pitch was adjusted, but most of the masters are high-quality takes including line recordings, so there is a sense of unity in the content, and the overall sound is very good. It is finished in a piece with a high degree of perfection. From the mysterious introduction to the first half, where you can hear an avant-garde development, from the middle, where the intensity gradually increases, to the second half, where the tempo gradually slows down, the performance changes day by day, making every take worth listening to. It is an attempt that seems to be possible but actually did not occur at all, and by listening specifically to the performance of The Waiting Room, you can enjoy a very interesting 76 minutes. Showing how The Waiting Room changed over the year or so it was played… STEREO SBD/AUD 01. Headley Grange Rehearsal Take #1 June/July 1974 02. Headley Grange Rehearsal Take #2 June/July 1974 03.
