Description

The soundboard album called “The apex sound of the AND THEN THERE WERE THREE Tour” has been upgraded. The superb masterpiece created from the newly excavated pre-FM master reel has been permanently preserved. This work is engraved with the “June 24, 1978 Knebworth performance”. It is a superb stereo soundboard recording. Speaking of the “AND THEN THERE WERE THREE Tour”, it is a monumental tour that also realized the legendary first visit to Japan. First, let’s look back on the journey and check the position of the show.・March 26-31: North America #1a (4 shows) {“…AND THEN THERE WERE THREE…” released on March 31}・April 1-22: North America #1b (14 shows)・May 14-June 24: Europe #1 (26 shows)←★Here★・July 3-31: North America #2 (20 shows)・August 20-September 9: Europe #2 (10 shows)・September 29-October 22: North America #3 (17 shows)・November 27-December 3: First visit to Japan (6 shows)This is GENESIS in 1978. It was a style in which three North American tours and Europe/Japan were alternated. The Knebworth performance in this work was the final day of the first half of “Europe #1”. This show was an appearance at the music festival “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, and in addition to them, BRAND X (Phil also participated), JEFFERSON STARSHIP, Tom Petty & THE HEARTBREAKERS, DEVO, ATLANTA RHYTHM SECTION, and Roy Harper also participated. GENESIS was the performer at the festival. Since it was a large festival, it was broadcast on the radio. It has reigned as a major staple since then. This work is the same FM sound board, but it is a newly excavated pre-FM master that updates the highest peak. If you are an enthusiastic collector here, you may think, “Pre-FM has been around for a while.” In fact, our shop has also been very popular with pre-releases such as “KNEBWORTH 1978: A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM”, but the one unearthed this time is something different. It is a gem that was created from the pre-broadcast master reel of the prestigious BBC program “Rock Hour”. The sound is exactly “master sound”. Anyway, each sound is vivid, delicate, and extremely natural. The conventional pre-FM masters have also been called “fully official”, but this work is even better. To convey this level… well, we have no choice but to talk about it based on the official remastered version. The conventional “Pre-FM” is, so to speak, a “recorded official CD”. In the early days of CD production, there were cases where albums where the master tape could not be found were made into official CDs by recording them from LPs, but this is the level that “Pre-FM” usually refers to. The conventional version was also “before it was broadcast on the airwaves”, but it was not more than that. In contrast, this time it was digitized from the master reel. This is a process equivalent to a normal official CD. Moreover, since this work is a transfer of modern standards, if we were to compare it to the official level, it would be equivalent to a high-end sound like “Mobile Fidelity” or “Nimbus Supercut”. It is difficult to put this sound into words. Even if you repeatedly say “vivid” or “beautiful”, the difference from the conventional version will not be conveyed. The delicate details up to the moment of one sound being silenced, the reality that makes you feel the presence of strings and skin, the discovery of “I didn’t know such a sound was included!” … After all, we have no choice but to cite high-quality CDs such as “Mobile Fidelity” and “Nimbus Supercut”. Even familiar masterpieces sound completely different, and that excitement is packed into this work. The sound is perfect, but the content is not necessarily so. If you are familiar with the conventional version, you will know that this broadcast is not a full show, but is edited according to the broadcast frame. This work is a complete version of the broadcast, not a complete version of the show. Let’s organize it here by comparing it with the actual set list. DISC 1 (opening Eleventh Earl of Mar/In The Cage is not included), Squonk (originally the 8th song), Burning Rope, Ripples, The Fountain Of Salmacis (Deep In The Motherlode → second half), One For The Vine (Squonk → opening) DISC 2, The Lady Lies, Deep In The Motherlode (from the 6th song to here) (The Cinema Show is not included), Afterglow, Follow You Follow Me, Dance On A Volcano, Drum Duet, Los Endos, I Know What I Like … and so on. “Eleventh Earl of Mar”, “In The Cage”, and “The Cinema Show” have not been broadcast (there are no leaked sound boards to date), and the order of the songs has been changed to adjust the timing of the commercials. This work permanently preserves the truth of the master reel in its entirety, including the commercial parts in between, without changing the order of the songs. You may think, “Even if you fix the order of the songs,” or “Even if you cut out the commercials,” some of the previous releases have been edited in this way. However, the broadcast itself feels more natural when you actually listen to this work. Of course, the actual show itself is the ultimate, but if you remove only the commercials from the composition in which the commercials were inserted, it will feel patchy and disjointed. In contrast, this work has a neat “flow” and “sharpness” that take the commercials into consideration, and the completeness as a “broadcast work” that is different from the actual scene is wonderful. There are many concert broadcasts in history, but the “pre-FM master reel” is rarely found. This work is a miraculous masterpiece that has been able to make a CD of the master sound that is lost in most broadcasts. A CD that preserves the beautiful sound and editing that shines with the design of the prestigious BBC. Please savor it anytime and forever. A superb stereo soundboard recording of the “Knebworth performance on June 24, 1978”. A miraculous masterpiece created from the pre-FM master reel of the classic FM soundboard. The beautiful sound, which far exceeds that of the conventional “Pre-FM” board, is a completely master sound, with delicate details even at the moment of one sound being silenced, a reality that makes you feel the presence of strings and skin, and the discovery of “I didn’t know such a sound was included!” It is packed full of discoveries. If you compare it to an official work, it is the ultimate live album equivalent to a high-quality CD such as “Mobile Fidelity” and “Nimbus Supercut”.
