Description

This work is a multi-camera video produced by an overseas enthusiast. The video mainly consists of precious 8mm film left behind in “THE LAMB LIES DOWN ON BROADWAY TOUR”, and image cuts are used for the missing parts. The stereo sound board sound is synchronized with it, and it is a video work that challenges the visualization of “THE LAMB LIES DOWN ON BROADWAY TOUR” as long and beautifully as possible. The 8mm used is for four performances, Rochester performance (December 17, 1974), Grand Rapids performance (February 2, 1975), Bern performance (March 29, 1975), and Liverpool performance (April 19, 1975). The sound board used is from the Los Angeles performance (January 24, 1975). The quality is excellent. Of course, it has a vintage feel that is typical of 8mm film at that time, and there is variation in the quality of the four performances. However, the freshness is extremely wonderful, and most scenes have no fading or film twisting, and the vivid colors convey the scene of the time itself. Moreover, the viewpoint is amazing. The shots of the four performances were shot from various angles, and there is a great variety. When it comes to 8mm from the 1970s, there are many that have members floating small in the darkness, but this work has plenty of close-ups of Peter Gabriel’s facial expressions. Although there are some repetitions of the same scene, they are very few. Another characteristic of 8mm at that time is its shortness. It is not possible to shoot for long periods of time like today, and there are only cuts of a few seconds to a dozen seconds. The 8mm used in this work is also short, but by connecting them one after another, it gives the opposite feeling of a multi-camera shot like a professional shot. Although it was not possible to reproduce all the songs and the full length, it is a video work of over an hour that covers the main songs. The story show of “Dazzling Broadway” depicted with such quality is wonderful… After all, it is Peter Gabriel who attracts the eye. In the beginning, he sings in a leather jacket, pretending to be the main character, Leel, but his acting ability to express the world of the lyrics through action is the best of his generation. And it is in the middle of the show that he really shows off his talent. In “The Waiting Room,” a silhouette of a monster appears on the back screen and dances mysteriously, and in “The Lamia,” he sings inside a rotating curtain. Then, in “The Colony of Slipperman,” he transforms from a pantomime in a full-body tights to the legendary paw monster Slipperman… In addition to his strange appearance, the superb footage that allows you to clearly experience his strange and wriggling movements up close is the true essence of “THE LAMB LIES DOWN ON BROADWAY TOUR.” Of course, an old man also appears in “The Musical Box.” This is a masterpiece video work that overseas enthusiasts put together with a huge amount of time, persistent effort, and boundless love. Unfortunately, it is not the full video of “THE LAMB LIES DOWN ON BROADWAY TOUR”, but it is still over an hour long and you can immerse yourself in the world of “Dazzling Broadway”. It is a masterpiece that gives you such a blissful moment. Audio: Shrine Auditorium, Los Angeles, CA. USA 24th January 1975 (Stereo Soundboard) (62:28) 01. The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway 02.
