Description
The first CD release of treasured recordings from the original master tapes is an impressive epic! This 2-CD set is a vacuum-packed ultra-realistic sound set that will make any enthusiast cry, featuring the final performance at Shibuya Public Hall in Tokyo on February 1st, from Gary Moore’s first tour of Japan in early 1983 after the release of “CORRIDORS OF POWER”! Many recordings of the final day of 1983 are already known, including the 4-CD set “A THING OF THE PAST” released in 2011. However, the newly unearthed recordings will make those recordings a thing of the past. Even the most enthusiastic enthusiasts will be amazed that such recordings were still lying dormant. This work is a calling card for “Miracle Man” and an immediate knockout punch! After transferring to a new record company and producing “CORRIDORS OF POWER,” Gary began his solo career at the Reading Festival in August 1982. After forming a new band with Ian Paice and Neil Murray, who had left WHITESNAKE, Don Airey on keyboards, and John Sloman on vocals and side guitar, Gary toured the UK from November to December 1982. He then formed a band ensemble and embarked on a Japan tour starting on January 22, 1983. The ninth and final performance was the Shibuya Public Hall performance included in this work. As mentioned above, this day has long been known for its excellent recordings, but the quality of this recording is outstanding. While it has the texture of a tape recording, the perspective and sound spread are as vivid as a DAT recording. The performance, captured with a direct feeling and overflowing power, will make the listeners instinctively do a gut pose as soon as “End Of The World” begins. There are some parts during the performance where the sound is a little muffled, but even if you ignore that, the quality of this recording from 30 years ago is nothing short of amazing! The sound of Gary’s thick guitar, which seems to be thrust out in front of the listener, is at a level of agony from the beginning of the live. Of course, the sound balance is ideal, and in the following “Wishing Well”, Neil’s bass can be heard with outstanding luster, and Pace’s drums and a sturdy bottom can be heard. The bold play of “Cold Hearted”, where you can fully enjoy Gary’s guitar, and “Nuclear Attack”, where you can clearly hear Don’s keyboard, are the big listening points of the first half of the live. Other spontaneous performances include the hard “Rockin’ Every Night,” the melodious “I Can’t Wait Until Tomorrow,” and the heartwarming “Always Gonna Love You.” The highlight of the live performance is “Hurricane,” featuring Pace’s drum solo. The performance is thrilling as the members with high skills and musicianship compete fiercely. You can enjoy the mood of Gary’s live performance in the early ’80s with the realism and realism that comes from live recording. Disc 2 opens with “White Knuckles,” and the charm of Gary, who was a “guitar crazy” is fully open. From the storm-like solo of “White Knuckles,” the follow-up “Rockin’ And Rollin'” and “Back On The Streets” are just spectacular. The live finally reaches its climax with “Don’t Take Me For A Loser,” which has an overwhelming sound pressure and a thick band sound. There is no doubt that any listener will be knocked out by these electrifying songs! The encore includes the powerful “Gonna Break My Heart Again” and the Gary-inspired cover song “Higher Ground,” followed by “Sunset” for the finale. Gary’s guitar tone, backed by Don’s keyboard, is so moving that it makes you want to cry from the first note. And his unique playing with a good time… this is what it means to pluck at the heartstrings. The loud cheers that erupt immediately after the performance, the thunderous applause, and the “Gary!” calls enhance the aftertaste of the live, making the emotions deeper and heavier, imprinting them in the listeners’ minds. For Japanese hard rock fans, it is almost a miracle that Gary’s first visit to Japan, especially the final day of the tour, has been recorded to this extent! The performance is recorded with stunning clarity and a certain power, and the sense of realism is overwhelming. Furthermore, the sound is full of the charm of a live tape… I can’t think of any other item where various elements of the ’83 Gary live are meshed at such a high level. This is definitely the definitive sound source that represents the ’83 live.
