Description
From Gary Moore’s 1985 European tour accompanying the release of “RUN FOR COVER,” the performance in Stockholm, Sweden on November 1, the first half of the tour, will be released as a 2-disc set worthy of the name of the definitive edition, using a new high-quality audience master different from the previous release! Gary invited many guests such as Glenn Hughes and Phil Lynott to produce the world tour accompanying the release of “RUN FOR COVER” in 1985, and many high-quality audience sources remain from the UK tour in September and the subsequent performance in Japan in mid-October. However, the sound sources of the European tour that took place from late October to December were not as noteworthy as the live performances in the UK and Japan. The one that threw a stone into that situation was “SWEDISH RUN” (Shades), which appeared in the fall of 2011. This title is a sound record made by carefully remastering the audience master provided by the recorder. The excellent sound revealed a part of the live performance in Europe, delighting enthusiastic Gary fans. However, as Taper admitted that “the equipment ran out of battery in the middle of the live performance,” the sound quality deteriorated from “Nothing To Lose” to the guitar solo after “Victims Of The Future” (the change in sound was particularly noticeable in “Empty Rooms” and “Victims Of The Future,” which can be said to be the highlights of the live performance). Although the sound quality was significantly improved by the repairs made to the record, there must have been many fans who felt disappointed about this part. The sound source unearthed this time is a completely new audience source different from the previous release. The previous recording was characterized by a moderate sense of distance that encompassed the performance and the atmosphere of the venue, but this sound source has a powerful sound with Taper getting much closer to the stage and an overflowing sense of presence, and you can enjoy Gary rocking with a strong beat with a punch from the opening. Of course, the brightness and treble are in good condition, and the listener will be convinced of the high level of master freshness at first listen (the input seems a little strong in the first half, but the sound gets better and better as the live performance progresses). The individuality of the recording is more powerful than the album, and even the songs “Run For Cover”, “Reach For The Sky”, and “Nothing To Loose”, which had a slightly light image, are so hard that I was surprised. Hard songs such as “Murder In The Skies” and “Shapes Of Things” are of course heavy, and the intense attack that was heard on the ’84 tour will knock out the listener! The intro guitar solo of “Cold Hearted” fully opens up Gary’s “guitar crazy” style, and the following “End Of The World” are heavy and energetic performances that remind you of the “CORRIDORS OF POWER” tour. The parts of “Empty Rooms” and “Victims Of The Future”, which had a large change in sound in the previous releases, can be listened to all at once without any deterioration in sound quality in this work. The melodious “Empty Rooms” is perfectly described as “Definitive” in this recording, capturing all of Gary’s elegant tones, and even Bob Dissley’s bass can be clearly heard. The delicate intro of “Victims Of The Future” using acoustic guitar is also reproduced with a clear tone. After “Out In The Fields”, the wonderful performance at the end of the live is clear as already released. “All Messed Up” features Gary’s vocals that make you hear Glenn’s singing. “Rockin’ Every Night” and “Wishing Well”, which are indispensable in Gary’s live performances in the ’80s, are also played with great force. “Parisienne Walkways”, which decorates the end of the show, is a passionate performance of about 10 minutes. The single-note choking in the first half, which reveals his passion, and the overwhelming solo in the second half are so amazing that they leave you speechless, and this is the true essence of Gary Moore (it’s also interesting to listen to the Christmas song at the end, in honor of Stockholm). The master of this recording had a fast tape speed, and the pitch rose especially towards the second half of the live performance, but in the remastering process of this work, everything was adjusted correctly, so that you can enjoy the entire live performance in the correct form. This work, which allows you to enjoy a more powerful sound than the previous release, is a delight for Gary fans. Along with the previously released “SWEDISH RUN”, it allows listeners to enjoy the Stockholm performance from a different angle. Here is the definitive “RUN FOR COVER” live performance, which is comparable to the standard sound sources of the UK tour and Japan performance of the same year!
