The fourth release of the rare charity concert hosted by the late Gary Brooker! This year, we have released the rare and exquisite master of the Christmas concerts held by Gary Brooker at the Chiddingfold Club in Surrey, England in 2003 and 2004, sent by the veteran taper who lives in the UK and is well known for his secret recordings of Eric Clapton. The DAT masters of the Christmas concerts in 2006 and 2007 have been continuously delivered by the veteran taper, and will be released this week! Of course, Eric Clapton participated in both years. On New Year’s Eve of that year, the annual charity concert “New Year’s Eve Dance” hosted by Clapton was held, and the recordings were released as “Woking 2007” by our store, provided by the veteran taper. Brooker also participated in that concert, but few people know that a concert with the same purpose was held 10 days earlier, hosted by Brooker. The band members were mostly veteran British session musicians, just like Clapton’s charity concert, but since the charity’s cause (organization) was different, Brooker organized the concert under the pseudonym “No Stiletto Shoes.” Clapton was scheduled to perform a concert with the same members 10 days later, but being Brooker’s best friend, he participated in Brooker’s charity work. Clapton’s event also originally started in 1982 when Clapton, who participated in a “year-end live” held by Gary Brooker, who was a band member at the time, at a local pub, liked the idea of the event. It was held intermittently at the end of the year, but in 1993 it became a regular event hosted by Clapton, and was established as the “New Year’s Eve Dance,” with two live performances on the night of New Year’s Eve and the morning of New Year’s Day after a break, so Clapton must have felt indebted to Brooker. Even for such a rare local concert, the heavyweight taper used his usual connections to successfully infiltrate and record in stereo with the best sound quality using high-end equipment (the best recording of “New Year’s Eve Dance” in 2007 has already been released under the title “Woking 2007”. Please check it out). The master of this heavyweight taper is not inferior to “Woking 2007”, and is unrivaled in terms of stereo feeling and directness of sound, and is truly the best sound quality. Just listening to it for a moment makes it seem like a soundboard recording. Considering the club environment, it can be said that this work captures more vivid and powerful musical sounds. This event has a reputation for the members and set list being rare only at this time, and of course this work is the first sound source to appear in history. You can listen to it from the first generation’s best DAT master. This is amazing. Now, let’s review what 2007, when this concert was held, meant for Clapton. A live performance in which he expressed the fulfillment of this year and decorated his best friend’s show with his precise playing. 2007 ・January 13th – February 11th: Asia & Oceania tour ・February 28th – April 6th: American tour ・May 19th: Sudden appearance at Steve Winwood’s concert at Highclere Castle in Berk, England. ・July 28th: Held the 2nd “Crossroads Guitar Festival” in Dallas, USA ・November 29th: Sudden appearance at Jeff Beck’s concert at Ronnie Scott’s, a club in London ・December 21st: Guest appearance at Gary Brooker’s “No Stiletto Shoes” charity concert in his hometown of Woking, Surrey ←★This work★ ・December 31st: Held the annual charity concert “New Year’s Eve Dance” in his hometown of Woking, Surrey. He toured energetically in the first half of the year, and in July he held his own “Crossroads Guitar Festival,” which was a success. He took a break from there and rushed to an event hosted by his best friend at the end of the year. The members of this concert were almost the same as the fellow British musicians who supported Clapton’s “New Year’s Eve Dance.” The set list unique to this event was also attractive. However, while the set list for “New Year’s Eve Dance” included Clapton’s own songs, this time, Brooker led the set list and it consisted of famous songs from the Procol Harum era, blues, rock and roll, soul standards, and traditional numbers. Clapton joined in the middle of the set, and participated from Santa Claus is Back in Town to the end of the regular set (he did not participate in the encore). Compared to Clapton’s own “New Year’s Eve Dance,” he played very modestly and kept his solo playing to a minimum. Clapton’s humility can be seen in the fact that he tried not to be too outspoken, as the concert was hosted by his best friend Brooker. However, when you listen to the solid backing and the song-filled solos that can still be heard, the quality of the performance with or without Clapton is a world apart (sorry to Andy). To borrow the words of Pete Townshend of The Who, who once saw Roger Waters’ solo concert in London (1984), “When Eric started playing, the color of the air clearly changed.” How many musicians can show such a presence in a short play? This work is also perfect as a tribute to Brooker, who passed away in 2022. In particular, the excellent arrangement and performance of the final song, No Woman, No Cry ~ A Whiter Shade of Pale, clearly shows his ability and greatness. A complete recording that shows the whole picture of the event! Taper is a heavyweight who has provided the masters of many rare sound sources of Clapton, but the master of this work is one of the best sound quality among them. It’s great that they managed to capture the sound reverberating in the small room of a country club from a great position, and they recorded the whole thing without missing anything. The sound quality is unbelievably high. World first appearance Chiddingfold Club, Surrey, UK 21st December 2007 ULTIMATE SOUND(from Original Masters) Disc:1 (60:18) 1. Intro 2.
