Description
The 2006 version of the best master of the Christmas concert hosted by Gary Brooker is here for the first time! This work, released from the first generation DAT master provided by Taper, a heavyweight living in the UK, who is well known for Eric Clapton’s secret sound source, is a sound source of the Christmas concert hosted by the late Gary Brooker at the Chiddingfold Club in Surrey, UK! This is the best stereo audience source of the complete recording of this concert held on December 15, 2006. This Christmas concert was originally a regular “Year-end live” held in 1982 by Gary Brooker, who was a member of the Clapton band at the time, at a local pub. Clapton, who participated in this concert, liked this idea, and it became a regular event hosted by Clapton in 1993, and it became the “New Year’s Eve Dance” that was established in the form of two live performances on the night of New Year’s Eve and the morning of New Year’s Day after a break. Brooker, in order to enliven this local concert, gave the band a pseudonym “No Stiletto Shoes” and performed as a one-off band with veteran British session musicians. Clapton liked this idea, and the band members took over and started holding “New Year’s Eve Dances”. In a sense, this concert hosted by Brooker became the origin of Clapton’s charity activities. Clapton also participated in this concert that year, livening up the stage. It was probably a way of giving back to Brooker, who gave him the idea for his own charity activities. In the past, the veteran Taper provided masters of the 2003 and 2004 versions of this concert hosted by Brooker, which he recorded himself, with the highest quality sound quality, and this week the 2006 and 2007 versions were also released. The master of this heavyweight taper is also the best sound quality, unrivaled in terms of stereo feeling and direct feeling of sound. Just listening to it for a moment makes you think it’s a soundboard recording. And the master of this work is also the first ever appearance! Brooker’s minor local gig sound source has never been released before. You can listen to it from the first generation’s best DAT master. This is amazing. However, as you may have noticed, the previous “No Stiletto Shoes” sound source provided by the heavyweight taper was a set of 2 CDs, but this time it is only 1 CD. For some reason, the heavyweight taper recorded only the first part of the set in which Clapton participated, and did not record the second part. Although the recording time is shorter than other Christmas concerts, the content of the performance is dense, including Clapton’s play! Please enjoy this rare concert of the year. It was a live performance that captivated the audience with a rare set list while expressing the fulfillment of that year. Now, let’s review what significance 2006, the year in which this concert took place, held for Clapton. 2006・May 5th – June 10th: First leg of European tour (24 shows)・July 7th – August 3rd: Second leg of European tour (17 shows)・August 13th: Appeared on stage with Jimmie Vaughan in Columbus, Ohio・September 16th – October 23rd: American tour (24 shows)・November 11th – December 9th: Japan tour (19 shows)・December 15th: Guest appearance at Gary Brooker’s “No Stiletto Shoes” gig in Chiddingford, Surrey, England ←★This work★・December 31st: Hosted the “New Year’s Eve Dance” in Woking, Surrey, England This year was a typical year for Eric Clapton as a live artist. Although he was on vacation until April, he was on tour from May to the end of the year. This work captures an event that took place at the time when he was on vacation at the end of the year after successfully completing such a busy world tour. The band members are British session musicians who also played on Clapton’s “New Year’s Eve Dance”. Clapton, who is a member of such familiar friends, participated in four songs from Little Wheel to Stand By Me. Although the number of songs he participated in was smaller than usual, the content was rich. He was in charge of vocals on three of the four songs he participated in, and took the guitar solo on all the songs. Perhaps Brooker wanted to feature Clapton on a large scale because he participated in so few songs. Since he set up the blues songs Driftin’ and Reconsider Baby, which were also in Clapton’s repertoire, Clapton’s playing was like a fish in water. He played it over and over. Furthermore, in Stand By Me, he sings passionately, despite the high key. This vocal is great! And the guitar solo with a singing spirit that is typical of Clapton attracts you. It seems to be reminiscent of the performance of the same song at the 1987 “Princess Trust Concert”. If you can hear such a performance of Clapton even with only four songs, there is no complaint. I’m sure you will enjoy it. By the way, from I Don’t Mind to I Feel Good, a veteran-like female singer who is introduced as a friend of Brooker participated, and she took the lead vocals on I Don’t Mind and I Feel Good, but her name is unknown because I couldn’t hear her name well. She is a good singer. The stereo sound image that makes the stage feel like it is in your hands! Taper is a veteran who has provided the master of many rare sound sources of Clapton so far, but the master of this work is already a superb level of sound quality that is already commonplace. It is wonderful to capture the sound resonating in the narrow box of a rural club with a wide stereo recording. When I listen to this work, I truly wish I could have experienced this warm and heartwarming concert once. I am grateful to the veteran taper for delivering such a concert that we Japanese people could not attend with such reality. The sound quality is unbelievable.
