Description
FREE’s legendary original recording has been brushed up. The legendary recording is “LIVE IN WEST GERMANY 1970”, the extremely popular work by “REEL MASTERS”, which released masters that appeared for the first time all over the world. This is the ultimate upgrade by re-digitizing the original reel of that masterpiece audience recording. [The mysterious master reel that surprised enthusiasts around the world] “LIVE IN WEST GERMANY 1970” was truly shocking. After all, speaking of FREE in 1970, despite being at its peak when they released the famous albums “FIRE AND WATER” and “HIGHWAY”, there are almost no satisfactory recordings. When you play “BBC IN CONCERT” from “LIVE AT THE BBC”, there are many people who sigh and say, “I want to listen to anything that exists…”. “LIVE IN WEST GERMANY 1970” suddenly appeared from such a gap in history. The reel case brought in through a unique route only says “Live in West Germany,” and the date and venue of the performance are unknown. However, what came out was a rich vintage FREE. It was a performance that was different from all the records that had been around until then, and the quality was also excellent. That’s no wonder, this reel was recorded by the taper that provided a large number of performances in West Germany for the “REEL MASTERS” series. Yes, he is the same person who did LED ZEPPELIN’s “DUSSELDORF 1970”. Enthusiasts around the world were shocked by the shocking content. Perhaps the amazing sound and show sparked a search, and research has been actively conducted to find out when and where the actual stage was. “All Right Now isn’t there, so it must have been recorded in 1969.” “No, it must have been recorded in 1970 since they played Ride On A Pony and Be My Friend.” “If it’s the same taper as ZEP, isn’t it from Dusseldorf? ” and so on. As of 2019, the theory of “JOINT MEETING from May 16th to 18th” is considered to be the most likely, but no conclusive evidence has yet been found for it. It is still an unknown live album with many mysteries. [A design disc that achieved the highest quality by taking every possible measure] This work is a master that has stirred up mania all over the world. This is not just a reissue, but an ultimate edition that has been refined using every conceivable method. First of all, re-digitization from the original master. “REEL MASTERS” first appeared in 2004, but the digitization know-how has improved dramatically since then. This time, we have digitized the sound injected into the original reel, down to the smallest details. Moreover, it is not only the sound but also the longest. If you experienced the previous edition, you may know that this recording was temporarily stopped during the long tuning typical of the 1970s in order to save tape. In the previous edition, the sound at that end was cut off for a few seconds, but in this work, all the recorded on-site sounds were brought out down to zero comma or less. In terms of quality and length, “everything about the original reel” has been completely transferred to digital. Moreover, the accuracy of remastering after digitization has also been significantly improved. This does not mean “equalizing”. There are various things, but the most important point is unification under the best conditions. I think there are many people who say “???”, but this is absolutely amazing. To explain, let’s go back to the recording situation of the original reel. If you’re a vintage lover, you’ll probably appreciate this, but there were many monaural recordings from the early 70’s. However, it is not limited to monaural tapes, and often stereo tapes. By recording onto stereo tape using a monaural microphone, the same sound is recorded on the right and left channels, making it possible to create “two original masters with one tape.” When recording using this method, even if a problem occurs in one channel (dropping sound, noise, etc.), the other channel will compensate. However, as time passes, the story changes. There is a difference in the saved state of the left and right channels, and when playing back in a stereo environment, even if one side is beautiful, you can hear noise and distortion from the other side, making it look choppy. The last edition was made into a CD with Chiguhagu as it is because it was the master’s truth, but this time the left and right channels were digitized separately. All songs/lengths were carried through with only an intact channel (shaking during recording and twisting of the tape itself remain). You may be thinking, “I’m going back and forth between channels!?”, but there’s no need to worry, as the recording itself is monaural. As I mentioned earlier, it is the same as having “two original masters”, so there is no discomfort even if you put together the best parts. It simply achieves a glossy, seamless sense of stability without noise or deterioration over time. What’s more, even noiseless songs/parts are compared for how good they sound, and the entire series is thoroughly unified in the best condition. [FREE of climax spelled out with natural sound] Although we have taken all possible precautions, the one thing we did not do was equalizing. In the last edition, we made adjustments to compensate for the textures that could not be picked up from the reels, but this time there was no need to do that. We were able to bring out such a rich sound from the original reel. In fact, it’s completely different from the previous edition. Of course, the recording itself is not different, so the sense of distance remains the same, but the natural feeling is overwhelming. The deep bass vibe is beautiful even without emphasis, and the midrange response with a sense of mass is also excellent. Still, the unprocessed natural sound is infinitely deep. A live performance drawn with such a sound is wonderful. As mentioned above, this recording was recorded from two performances, although the details are unknown, and the first nine songs were included in “REEL #1” and the last seven songs were included in “REEL #2”. Let’s organize its contents. ●TONS OF SOBS (3 songs, 4 takes)・I’m A Mover (2 takes)/The Hunter/Walk In My Shadow ●FREE (3 songs, 5 takes)・Woman (2 takes)・Listen on FREE LIVE! Songs that are not available: Songs Of Yesterday (2 takes) / Free Me – FIRE AND WATER (3 songs, 4 takes) – Fire And Water / Mr. Big (2 takes) – Songs that cannot be heard on FREE LIVE!: Don’t Say You Love Me ●HIGHWAY (3 songs), Ride On Pony/Be My Friend, Songs that cannot be heard on FREE LIVE!: The Stealer…and so on. A singing voice squeezed from the soul, a flexible bass, a guitar that cries out with just one note, a drum that has a casual groove that is too deep… I will avoid repeating the greatness of FREE that has been talked about so much, but the overwhelming reality of these four people. You can experience it face-to-face with a sense of realism. The Master Reel has shocked enthusiasts all over the world. This is a live album that thoroughly explores that possibility.
