Description

The annual Halloween live performance, held in 1974 to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the formation of the Mothers, was held at the Felt Forum in New York on October 31st, with the strongest members of the band ever. The two performances on that day were recorded in complete with the best quality ever from the audience master recordings owned by Taper, which were recently re-excavated. First of all, the first leg of the tour this year was reminiscent of the official “Roxy & Elsewhere” with a horn section, whereas the second leg featured a strong band ensemble of six people. Therefore, as is well known, the performance was a strong jazz ensemble performance unique to this period, and the tremendous exchange of interplay between the talented members overwhelmed those who listened to the end. Moreover, since it was a special Halloween concert with two performances, one in the afternoon and one in the evening, Lance Lowde (vocals) and Bruce Fowler (trombone) joined the band for the late show, making it an 8-person lineup reminiscent of the “Roxy Live.” Therefore, only the opening part was the same, and it was nice that the set list was completely different from the third song onwards. Each theme song had a variety of introductions, and there were plenty of dazzling performances, making it amazing that they were able to perform two performances in one day. The late show in particular was a little long, and by the end, inspired by the amazing performances of George Duke and Chester Thompson, Ruth’s marimba also responded with dazzling techniques. This is definitely a must-have item for fans who love Zappa this time of year, and is also called the “Roxy Halloween Live”! DISC 1 : 01. Tush Tush Tush/02. Stinkfoot/03. Inca Roads/04.
