Description
The “BONGO FURY” tour, which started on April 11, 1975 and ended on May 23, 1976, featured Captain Beefheart and included a total of 32 shows (including two shows a day for five days), which was relatively short for Zappa at that time. All of the two shows at Boston Music Hall on April 27 have been recorded in full using the audience master recordings, which are the best quality available, and were recently released online by the owner of the taper. The recording level is average for the audience at the time, but there are still only a limited number of live recordings that include Beefheart, and the incredible “Willie The Pimp” from “Hot Rats,” where the captain roars at the end of the encore, is a highlight at both the early and late shows. Furthermore, although this number was played at the end of this tour, there are almost no recordings of it from other shows, making it a rare rarity. Other tracks from “BONGO FURY” include “Muffin Man” played early on in an instrumental version at the late show, and “Debra Kadabra” and “Poofter’s Froth Wyoming Plans Ahead” were recorded a month later, and the arrangements and compositions are subtly different from the live takes on the album, so be sure to check them out. The band also includes George Duke, Napoleon Murphy and other tough guys, as well as Terry Bozzio, who was unknown and considered a young genius before this tour, for the first time. In particular, during the improvisation led by Beefheart in the middle of the show, you can hear the rising, explosive solos that will give you goosebumps. This is a rare live performance by Beefheart, who participated in his only tour in the past month and a half, and is a must-have item that allows you to hear his howling to the fullest. DISC 1 : 01.
