Description

After completing the Slow Hand American Tour in April 1978, Clapton performed several concerts during the Backless Tour, which began in November of the same year. This work is a live performance at “The Picnic Festival” held at Blackbush Aerodrome in Camberley, England on July 15th, when Bob Dylan participated in the festival as the headliner. The complete recording from “The Core” to the last “Bottle Of Red Wine” with the highest level of ultra-high quality audience recording. Although it was an audience recording, it was recorded in stereo, with good separation of each instrument, and the sound quality was astounding at the time, and the entire recording was recorded with a quality that could not have been better. (The world’s first appearance master is used, which is shocking for Clapton sound source enthusiasts, which is completely different from the previously released version where the last part of “Bottle…” was cut off.) Especially the bass is recorded dynamically, and the first song From “The Core”, I was overwhelmed by the tremendous ensemble of the rhythm section of Jamie Oldaker and Carl Radle, especially the complex interweaving of ride cymbals and kicks that emphasized Oldaker’s backbeat. And just by listening to E.C.’s guitar that cuts in as if inspired by that, you can get a sense of the high level of performance on this day. While the songs start with a calm atmosphere from beginning to end, each song creates a sharp peak, and sharp blues playing recorded so clearly that you can hear the attack is scattered throughout the concert, and the band as a whole towards the end. A stage is unfolding where the tension is rising even more. In addition, a bonus version of “Forever Young”, in which E.C. jumps in along with Bob Dylan’s MC of “Anyway Eric Clapton is back. He’s gonna stay here & play…” is included. This is also recorded with excellent sound quality that is as good as the main story. The title captures the final day of the Slow Hand Tour and its completed form. Live at Blackbushe Aerodrome, Camberley, Surrey, UK 15th July 1978 PERFECT SOUND(from Original Masters) Disc 1(44:26) 1.
