Description

This is a great value 2CD+DVD set that includes a very good stereo audience audio master of the charity show hosted by Gary Brooker at the Ex Serviceman Club in Chiddingford, Surrey, England, Clapton’s hometown, on Christmas Eve Eve, and a DVD with a shot of the audience shot taken from close range at the bottom left of the stage in a small club. These were previously released by our store, but many fans missed them because they were relatively low-key events despite Clapton’s full participation, so they are being re-released this week. You can enjoy a local, homey Christmas show in the UK that is not possible in Japan, both in sound and video. Although it is local, the stage is tight because Clapton is participating, so Clapton fans should pay particular attention to it. Clapton, who guest-starred at a show with his old friends ahead of the big event in the new year, can be heard playing his relaxed yet sharp style, which is a valuable and fulfilling content. His looks are exactly the same as in the “Journeyman” era, with long hair and the way he lights up a cigarette on stage. The 2CDR is a complete recording, with a very clear, vivid stereo sound that captures the mood of a small club in a realistic way. This time, too, we are using a super high-quality master directly handed over from the famous British taper. This is the best version, with all the gap noise between songs that was in the previously released “Christmas Show ’89” corrected. The only video that is not included is the encore Little Queenie, but it captures the stage in a close-up from the standing floor just behind Gary Brooker on the left side of the stage. The image quality has deteriorated slightly due to aging, and the various Christmas-like lighting colors tend to bleed, but it is worth seeing the close-up expressions of each person, which are perfectly reflected by the zoom work that hits the points. The sound of the video is from the camera’s built-in microphone, a different master from the 2CDR, and this is also a clear sound. Since this unit “Stiletto Shoes” was led by Gary Brooker, his repertoire, including R&B and rock and roll, was the main focus, and there was not a single song in which Clapton sang vocals. However, this show was actually a historic event that led to the New Year’s Eve Dance, an annual New Year’s Eve event that Clapton would hold in later years. Clapton must have really liked the mood and taste of this show. This is no wonder, as the band members included Andy Fairweather Low (guitar), Henry Spinetti (drums), and Dave Bronze (bass), who were also familiar with Clapton. Andy’s Gin House Blues, which is included in this album, was also performed at the show held in Basel, Switzerland, and it can be said that this album is worth watching and listening to Clapton playing the solo in the middle. A must-have for fans. This is a very valuable and highly recommended title that will definitely satisfy you.
