Description
We have a lineup of 2 CDs of rare and valuable Eric Clapton and Genesis-related charity concerts. This is a 2CD complete recording of the charity concert held in Bramley, Surrey, England on July 2, 1988, with a very good and spacious monaural audience recording. Speaking of Clapton in the 1980s, it was a time when his participation in charity concerts and other artists’ albums was noticeable. He collaborated with numerous charity concerts, including the Prince’s Trust Concerts in 1986, 1987, and 1988. It can be said that these activities led to him establishing and operating the “Crossroad Center” himself today. This concert was held to raise funds for the King Edward VII Hospital. The participating musicians are: Eric Clapton – guitar / vocals, Andy Fairweather Low – guitar / vocals, Mike Rutherford – guitar / vocals, Gary Brooker – keyboards / vocals, Howard Jones – keyboards, Rick Wills – bass, Phil Collins – drums / vocals, Henry Spinetti – drums, Jodie Linscott – percussion, Sam Brown – vocals, Vicky Brown – vocals, Carol Kenyon – vocals, Margo Buchanon – vocals, Mel Collins – saxophone, Frank Mead – saxophone, representing the British rock world. They were amazing people. Since so many stars were participating, Clapton only sings on three songs: Behind The Mask, It’s In The Way That You Use It, and Cocaine, but the highlight is in the guitar play. It has long been known that Clapton stands out with his outstanding play in session activities, but here he also shows his true value with his outstanding guitar work when he is in the background. Andy Fairweather Rowe and Henry Spinetti, who would support Clapton in the 90s, are here, and it is also clear that Procol Harum’s Gary Brooker and Clapton’s friendship continued. Phil Collins plays double drums with Spinetti from beginning to end. Clapton also performs a wonderful solo in the middle solo of Andy’s number Gin House, and in the blue shadow of Procol Harum, he plays a delicious solo with Brooker’s organ. In addition to each musician’s representative solo numbers, the set list includes Procol Harum, Genesis numbers, standards, and cover numbers, so you won’t get bored. It can be said to be a valuable sound source not only for Clapton but also for understanding the abilities of veteran British musicians.
