A dark horse-like, recommended title that was unexpected at Clapton’s 2019 visit to Japan! A 4-disc set that directly uses the excellent recording master by Mr. Taper, a famous Kanto artist. The contents are coupling titles of the first day, April 13th, and the final day, April 20th. From the unexpected powerful opening of Pretending, to the “August” period Wanna Make Love to You that surprised enthusiasts, to the electric Layla, which was performed for the first time in 10 years in Japan, Before You Accuse Me, which was only performed on this day, and the final grand finale Cocaine, which featured John Mayer as a guest, the first day’s performance that excited fans from start to finish was really special, and many fans would still be happy if it was a good recording, but this take is exactly that. This take, recorded in the perfect position of Arena A4, is a sound source with a solid sound image that is the polar opposite of the light digital recordings that are popular these days, and this sound image is perfect for Clapton’s live performance. The deep, deep, clean, yet moderately mild and warm sound reproduces the show of this day with the best tone. In the second half of the disc, the live performance on the final day, the 20th, is also recorded with the same level of stunning sound as the first day. There is no doubt that advanced microphones are used, and the thick and stable sound allows you to relive the moving final performance. This is said to be a recording from the southwest front seats of the first floor stand, but perhaps because it directly captures the sound from the PA, the sound is close and does not feel far from the stand seats, making it a clear and very good recording. It is a top-level recording that makes you feel nostalgic in a good way, and the sound image sounds perfect for Clapton’s live performance.
