Description
The high-quality audience master from the Nashville performance of Clapton’s latest American tour, 2025, has already arrived! We obtained a high-quality audience recording master from an overseas taper for the Nashville performance on September 8th, the second night of Clapton’s American tour! This master is original to our shop and is not available anywhere else. The concert is completely captured with a clear audience recording. You can feel the sound of the venue (the atmosphere), but it’s incredibly powerful. The deep bass range is particularly well-captured, giving the performance a strong feel. The voices of nearby audience members are heard at key points, but this is a straightforward response to the performance, giving a very clear impression of the atmosphere of the venue that day. We just released a superb audience shot from the Philadelphia performance on the fourth day of this tour, but this work had a different setlist. The opening of the acoustic set featured Bell Bottom Blues, not Drinftin’ Blues. This marks the first time in 21 years since the 2004 tour, and fans were surprised and delighted by the return of this classic song (the reason for its sudden inclusion will be explained later). Tell the Truth returned as the first act after the acoustic set. He also played Layla, a track he hadn’t played at all on the European tour, in the acoustic set. Clapton never plays the same or mediocre music, so enjoy the second day of the tour with excellent sound quality. The second night captured Clapton’s continued strength on the American tour! There were concerns about jet lag and fatigue from the long journey, but those fears proved unfounded. Clapton, once again, maintained his overall strength. Looking at the setlist, you’ll see that it’s based primarily on his Japan tour and subsequent European tour. As mentioned above, the subtleties that delight fans are also part of the charm of Clapton’s concerts. The set kicked off with a hard-hitting, energetic number from his Cream days, “White Room,” and the performance was powerful. With a fitting intro, Sonny Emory’s drumming was sharp, and the female chorus added a powerful punch, this number was an undeniably powerful opening. The solo at the end featured a thrilling, wah-wah-powered solo, characteristic of Clapton. The following blues performance was a masterful performance, now a concert staple. And as a “closer” before the acoustic set, he chose the Cream-era smash hit “Sunshine of Your Love,” just like in Japan. The opening riff features a similar prologue-like intro. This section alone has a great groove that makes you want to keep going. Clapton’s solo in the middle also begins with a phrase from “Blue Moon,” as per usual. Then, the set moved on to the acoustic set, opening with “Bell Bottom Blues.” This was the first time they performed this song on an acoustic set during this year’s tour, and their first live performance in 21 years since 2004. This was perhaps the highlight of the day. As he played the intro, Clapton commented, “For Bobby!” Yes, it was a tribute to his former friend Bobby Whitlock, who co-wrote the song and passed away last month! The performance featured Clapton on acoustic guitar, Doyle Bramhall on electric and slide guitar, and the rest of the band playing their respective instruments. Clapton plays the middle solo, and Doyle joins in on slide guitar towards the end. It’s a fantastic performance. Come to think of it, this was the first time they’d performed this song on an acoustic set with Doyle. This arrangement and the depth of the performance make this a must-listen take. Also featured on this acoustic set, as seen on the Japan tour, were Bessie Smith’s “Nobody Knows You When You’re Down and Out,” Robert Johnson’s “Kind Hearted Woman Blues,” “Golden Ring,” and “Can’t Find My Way Home.” What was surprising was that he played Layla. He didn’t play it on his European tour, but brought it back in the US. (Perhaps his animosity towards Pattie Boyd has faded?) The acoustic set closed with the classic “Tears in Heaven.” It was a must-have for fans following “Unplugged.” The second half of the set, which was a standing-room only electric set, featured a barrage of classic Clapton numbers. “Tell the Truth” was a delight, as we didn’t get to hear it at the April Japan concert. For the second half of the solo (jam) section, you’d think Doyle would take over with a slide, but Clapton cut in and delivered a stellar twin lead at the end. This take is also fantastic. The final stretch, from “Cross Road Blues” to “Cocaine,” truly brought the album to a climax. Clapton’s playing was particularly spirited, but the entire band was also incredible. Each solo was filled with passion. The performances of “Crossroads” and “Old Love” were particularly passionate, so be sure to check them out. Clapton’s solos were also impressive. His “Cocaine” solo, with its smooth, sharp wah-wah pedal, was a continuation of the Japanese performance’s ending, which didn’t end with a sing-along from the audience, but instead included a drum fill from Emory, creating a truly end-of-the-song ending. The encore, like the Japanese performance, was “Before You Accuse Me.” He continued his fun streak by inserting a passage from “Hideaway” (which he did beautifully) in the middle and a phrase from “Sweet Home Chicago” near the end. Four months into his European tour, Clapton has energetically embarked on his American tour despite his advanced age. This release features a high-quality audience master recording from Day 2.
