Description

[The definitive 2010 updated tour version of the joint with S. Winwood is here!] We will release a treasured DAT master brought by the heavyweight Taper, who lives in the UK. The sound source recorded on the other master he sent was a complete recording of a joint concert with Steve Winwood at Wembley Arena in London on May 21, 2010, in ultra-high quality stereo audience recording. This was also recorded by himself, and the sound quality was as good as or better than a good quality soundboard recording. Therefore, for this master, our engineer did not have a role in the sound quality itself. We previously released the sound source of this day under the title “2 NIGHTS AT WEMBLEY (4CDR)”, but the master of this heavyweight Taper was ultra-high quality sound that far exceeded it. However, the only drawback was that the sound image was a little unstable during the regular set finale, Cocaine, because the excited audience all stood up, but our engineers made corrections to this part to alleviate the discomfort as much as possible. As a result, it was a magnificent press release. This day was the third day of the tour and the second and final day of the consecutive London performances, and it seems that it was the concert that the discerning local rock fans paid the most attention to. Clapton and Winwood held a joint concert in New York the following year in 2008, triggered by Clapton’s surprise appearance at Winwood’s concert in 2007, and the CD and DVD were released as official works. For this 2010 tour, the band members and set list were changed from that time, and the combination of the two was more enhanced, so it can be said that it was an “updated version” of the joint concert. It is no exaggeration to say that this work is the new definitive version of the 2010 tour, with great sound quality and content. [At the beginning of the tour, an updated and attractive set list and a solid performance that excited local fans] Apart from 2008 and 2009, this was the first tour with Winwood since 1969, when they were in Blind Faith. Since the original reason for the breakup of Blind Faith was not a rift between the two, it was natural in a sense for the two, who had been friends for a long time, to warm up their old friendship at this point, when they had both built their careers as superstars with Grammy awards as solo artists representing the UK. However, long-time fans were surprised and delighted. Since it was essentially a reunion of Blind Faith, how would they play their old repertoire? Would they play their respective solo hits? When the news of a joint concert was announced in 2008, fans were excited. As could be seen in the official work, the playing of the two showed no signs of decline, and in fact they were playing better than in the Blind Faith era. The two enjoyed themselves so much that they went on a long tour of America in 2009 and Europe in 2010. Let’s take a look at what Clapton was up to this year. February 13th and 14th: Joint concert with Jeff Beck at the O2 Arena in London February 16th: Appeared in the Plastic Ono Band 40th Anniversary Concert at the BAM Howard Gilman Opera House in New York. Performed with Yoko Ono and Sean Lennon ・February 18th to February 22nd: Short American tour with Jeff Beck ・February 25th to March 13th: American tour with his own band ・May 18th to June 13th: Joint European tour with Steve Winwood ←★here★ ・June 26th: 3rd Crossroads Guitar Festival held at Toyota Park in Illinois ・June 28th to July 3rd: Short American tour with his own band <<September 27th: Album “CLAPTON” released>>・October 23: Appeared at a charity concert for former US President Clinton’s fund at St. John the Divine Church in New York ・November 2: Appeared in the live music program “Later with Jools Holland” at the BBC Studio in London ・November 17: Appeared in the “Princess Trust” concert held at the Royal Albert Hall in London ・December 31: Held the annual “New Year’s Eve Dance” in Woking, Surrey, England From this, we can see that Clapton was very busy, not only touring with Winwood, but also touring with Jeff Beck from the beginning of the year, appearing at numerous events, hosting his own “Crossroads Guitar Festival,” and producing studio recording albums. In other words, Clapton was so passionate about his work. And Clapton was successful in all of the activities listed here. At the time, Clapton was 65 years old and in the senior generation, but his vitality had not diminished. Meanwhile, during the European tour with Winwood, the set list was changed from the American tour of the previous year, which delighted the fans. What was surprising was that the set included The Shape I’m In by The Band, which is thought to have been a tribute to Richard Manuel, who committed suicide in 1986. Even after 24 years, Clapton still had feelings for his close friend Manuel. In addition, Winwood’s Midland Maniac and Jeff Beck’s favorite number Going Down were added to the set. Since Clapton had done a joint tour with Beck before this tour, the latter may have been included as a homage to Beck. The rest of the album basically followed the set list from the previous year’s tour, but the perfection of the Blind Faith era numbers such as Had To Cry Today, Presence Of The Lord, Well Alright, and Can’t Find My Way Home was particularly striking, and Winwood’s organ playing and Clapton’s guitar playing on Voodoo Chile, dedicated to their mutual friend Jimi Hendrix, were beyond words. It’s also fun to check Winwood’s role in Clapton’s hit songs. His vocals and keyboards on the hit song Forever Man, which is particularly popular among Clapton fans, are a perfect fit for him, and Layla, where you can hear his acoustic guitar solo, is also very good. He also plays the second solo on Cocaine, which is also great! Conversely, it’s also fun to check Clapton’s role in Winwood’s hit songs. Since Clapton is originally good at session playing, you can hear his playing that can only be described as precise. Winwood’s guitar solo on Georgia On My Mind is particularly excellent! This song was also in Richard Manuel’s repertoire, so Clapton may have been thinking about his take. It’s also interesting that in Glad, his Traffic number, Clapton plays the main phrase that Chris Wood used to play on sax on guitar. The encore, Dear Mr. Fantasy, is the final blow with a long, raging solo. Each song is more solid with the age and career of the two, and it seems like they are having fun playing. [The appeal of each song that can be heard with Steve Gadd’s drums] In the 2008 joint, the drummer was Ian Thomas (currently with the Mark Knopfler Band). The drummer for the 2009 American tour was Abe Laborial Jr. (currently with the Paul McCartney Band). And for this 2010 European tour, Steve Gadd, a jazz technician with the strongest bond with Clapton, played the drums. The impression of the same set list changes when the drummer is replaced, as is clear from the examples of Roger Hawkins on the 1983 American tour and Jamie Oldaker, who was hired midway through. With Gadd playing the drums on this tour, my interest was narrowed down to the following three points. Apart from the songs that he always supports Clapton, what nuances were different from the original Ginger Baker in the repertoire of Blind Faith? How did he play Winwood’s repertoire, including Traffic? How did he play Forever Man, which Clapton had not included in his set since 1990 and Gadd had never played on, and the Jimi Hendrix number Voodoo Chile, which was surprising for him? And did they match the songs? How did they compare to the drummers from the previous year and the year before? Steve Gadd responded to Clapton’s request, knowing that the hurdles were high from the start. The answer to these questions is… If I were to explain everything, it would take away the fun of appreciating the show. I would like you to check this out for yourself. Let me just say that it is a wonderful performance that will not disappoint. On May 21, 2010, S. Winwood and E. Clapton’s hometown, London, were very satisfied with the audience, and this is a work that can be said to be the definitive version of the joint European tour of the two, a wonderful performance recorded completely with ultra-high sound quality. This is the first appearance of the finest sound quality master, far surpassing the already released “2 NIGHTS AT WEMBLEY”.
