Description
The first day’s performance at Madison Square Garden on September 7, 2017 was recorded with a good audience shot. All except the encore “Before You Accuse Me” were shot by the same person. The angle was recorded almost perfectly without any obstacles from the second floor stand seats about 30 degrees to the left of the MSG stage. It was firmly fixed with a tripod and there was no camera shake. Of course, Clapton is the main focus, but the camera is also properly and accurately aimed at the supporting musicians and back chorus members who are given solos, and sometimes screenshots of the upper left of the stage are also effectively inserted, making it a very familiar shot. As for Clapton, a variety of shots are used, from a pull-out shot of the entire stage to a zoom shot that captures the whole body, and you will never get tired of looking at it. The sound is also recorded with a good stereo audience recording. The first song and several other songs contain the voices of the customers on the left side, but the musical sounds are mainly recorded, and it is recorded in a good environment that does not bother you much. The quality is such that it would be a good title even if this was released on an audio disc. The overall evaluation of the image and sound is that it is an excellent video that makes you feel the reality as if you were watching this concert with opera glasses. In the video, you can see that Clapton is standing and wearing a supporter on his right knee over his jeans. He is still in pain. However, you can see that he has taken off the supporter during the acoustic sitting set. He probably took it off because the pain is reduced when he sits down. During the sitting set, you can see Clapton’s guitar playing being projected on a large screen behind the stage. When he returns to the standing set, Clapton no longer wears the supporter. You can feel his enthusiasm. The multi-screen video production in the White Room is a must-see. The image reminiscent of the “light show” at Fillmore East in 1968 evokes emotions. Yes, it is a product of the good old days when Cream was active. During the encore, Jimmie Vaughan and Gary Clark Jr. jump in and you can see them smiling with Clapton. You can also see the eye contact during the solo. What’s noteworthy is that Clapton is playing a rare blue sunburst ES-345 (ES-335?) with the pickguard removed for this track only. Rare! The tone is different from his usual Strat. This is a very high quality recording, and I think it’s one of the best recordings of the 2017 MSG concert. The encore, “Before You Accuse Me,” features additional high-quality footage from the left arena seats. This is a great recording. Live at Madison Square Garden, New York, NY.
