Description
One of the highlights of this week’s “Clapton Week” release title to commemorate Eric Clapton’s 21st Japan tour is two consecutive stereo soundboard masters from the “August U.S. Tour” in April 1987. . Recently, we directly borrowed the live recording master from the same tour, which was treasured by the British heavyweight Taper, and released “L.A. Forum 1987”, which was well received. This time, as if this heavyweight taper was holding back, he suddenly sent me two stereo masters of Don Pica that had been mixed down from officially multi-track recorded tapes. When our staff listened to them, they found that both were perfect “official live recordings” that did not require any remastering. These were of a quality that could be used as an official live album. During this tour, Clapton made official live recordings in various places. It has been revealed from leaked tapes that he had also recorded tours in the fall of the previous year and the beginning of this year, but it seems that he was planning to officially release a live album from the live recordings of the previous year and this year (in the end, due to some circumstances, (The live album idea never came to fruition.) As a candidate, these two performances were also recorded. This is not a reference recording called PA output on a mixing table at a concert venue, but a completely multi-track recording for official use, so the sound quality, stereo separation, and sound balance are perfect. There was no need for any additional work by our highly regarded engineers. Of course, the master is first generation grade because it is owned by an important taper. This disc is a complete recording of the performance in St. Paul, Minnesota, held on April 18th, four days after the recently released L.A. performance. Although the sound board sound source of this day had been released in the past, this board was released by borrowing a genuine first generation tape, so there is no better sound quality. There are no cuts between songs, and there are no trouble spots. This tour was conducted with a 4-piece band that included the same members who participated in the previous year’s studio album “AUGUST”, which was produced with ally Phil Collins on drums and production, and was the most suitable for playing the songs of “AUGUST”. I could say it was organized. Therefore, the sound production is completely different from the previous backing band tour, and that is the biggest highlight. As many as 4 songs are set in from “AUGUST”, but the other conventional songs have also given a completely different impression. In particular, Same Old Blues, which is played for 26 minutes, gives the impression that the interaction and combination of Clapton and Greg Phillinganes is clearer than other performances. This radical funky sound can be said to have been achieved only by the band at this time. Please be sure to order it together with “Providence 1987” which will be released at the same time.
