Description

We will release various titles of Eric Clapton, who is still in the mood for his Japan tour. This is the first high-quality sound master of the three-day performance held at the Royal Albert Hall in London two years ago. At this time, Clapton had already announced his retirement from touring, so fans from the United States, Japan, and all over the world rushed to his local performance, which was realized on the spot. Our shop also released “Eric Clapton – Royal Albert Hall 2017 1st Night”, “Eric Clapton – Royal Albert Hall 2017 Day 2”, “Eric Clapton – Royal Albert Hall 2017 Day 3” and other works from the best masters uploaded to the Internet, and the quality was highly praised. That’s why now, again? In fact, this master, this RAH3 consecutive performance is a matrix version of ALD and audience recording, which will be released for the first time. The provider of this master is Taper, a heavyweight living in the UK who is familiar with Clapton’s treasured sound source. And this master was recorded by his friend who performed ALD recording and matrix mixed the stereo audience source recorded separately. ALD is an abbreviation for Assistive Listening Device, which is a line audio to clearly deliver difficult-to-hear sounds. It is also used for speeches at lectures, but some concert venues are installed for people with hearing impairments, and this alone is a rather strange sound image that is different from general audience recordings. However, it is true that the texture has changed by mixing the ALD, which is originally a “line” sound, with the wide audience source, but the good sound balance has been achieved, with the bass line being audible all the time, and overall it can be said that it is a valuable master with a clear and well-balanced sound with a clear musical tone. A friend of the heavyweight taper mixed it perfectly over three days. Since the audience source used was also of high quality, the result was that the quality that can definitely be called high quality was achieved for all three days. Therefore, this time it was released in a volume of 6 CDs at once. Now, let’s review Clapton’s activities this year, even though he had already announced his retirement at the time (in the end, he went on short tours the following year and this year, much to the annoyance and relief of his fans). ・March 19th and 20th, 2017: Madison Square Garden, New York ・(March 25th and 26th, 2017: The Forum, Inglewood = postponed) ・May 22nd, 24th and 25th, 2017: Royal Albert Hall, London ←★This album★ ・September 7th and 8th, 2017: Madison Square Garden, New York ・September 13th, 15th, 16th and 18th, 2017: The Forum, Inglewood (the 13th was a rescheduled performance from March 25th, and the 18th was a rescheduled performance from March 26th) Although it was only in New York, Los Angeles and London, the three biggest cities in commercial music history, it was a year of vigorous scheduling. Just looking at this, it was a situation that made me wonder, “What does retirement mean?” However, the Los Angeles performance in March was canceled due to Clapton’s poor health, and was rescheduled in September, which was a year of health concerns due to his advanced age. In the midst of all this, the RAH3Days album was held in May when he had recovered. The band was almost the same as the Japan performance this year, but the big difference was that Steve Gadd was on drums, there was no second guitarist, and Clapton was alone. That’s how much responsibility he imposed on himself as a guitarist. As if to show his enthusiasm, Clapton seemed to be in particularly good health and full of energy at this London performance. The venue was the Royal Albert Hall, which he loves. He was surrounded by fellow musicians who knew him well. In such a favorable environment, the first day of the performance on the 22nd was a long-awaited performance. The surprise song he prepared for the first day was a reggae arrangement version of Bell Bottom Blues. Badge and Cocaine, who are said to have been the highlights of the day, were also very impressive. Badge played a solo loudly as if to free his spirit, and Cocaine performed a wild solo with a wah pedal for the first time in a while. It’s worth listening to. Doyle Bramhall II, who was the support act that day, joined Little Queen Of Spades and Cocaine for the encore, so this collaboration with Clapton is also a highlight (this makes it even more similar to this year’s Japan performance). After Doyle’s solo on Cocaine that day, the performance became awkward and there were moments when the singing was strange, but now it’s an enjoyable element. After all, live performances are fun because various things happen. According to a review on a fan site after the concert, there were no particular surprises on the second day of the London performance, which was the middle day, and some people were disappointed that the reggae version of the surprise number Bell Bottom Blues from the first day was dropped from the set. Some people pointed out that Clapton was clearly tired in the second half of the show, and such comments make you think that there was nothing special going on that day, but that’s not the case. The PA system at the venue was very good, so the band’s sound was very powerful, and the result was a fulfilling stage performance by a down-to-earth, experienced band. The highlights of the day were Badge and Crossroads. Clapton’s aggressive solos burst with vitality. Doyle Bramhall II, who performed as the opening act, also participated in Little Queen Of Spades and Cocaine on this day, as well as the first day, and was featured solo. Here, there is no awkwardness in the solo rotation like on the first day, and the contrast between his and Clapton’s solos is also a highlight. And on the final day, Clapton is in top form, surpassing the first day. You can tell by listening to I Shot The Sheriff. The sharpness of the postlude on this day is the same as that of his heyday, which fans were hoping for! The cleverness of the gradually building up the composition, the burst of playing phrasing, the way all the audience at the Royal Albert Hall were moved and excited during this solo, and the way they gave a standing ovation after the end can be seen from this sound. When was the last time Clapton made the audience so excited (probably since the same song at the final performance at the Budokan in 2016). Just listening to this performance is worth it. The surprise song from the first day, Bell Bottom Blues, was not played on this final day, but this play alone is enough, isn’t it? Furthermore, as a surprise on the final day, I thought that it would be an encore featuring Paul Carrack again, but suddenly Sunshine Of Your Love was played. Of course, Doyle Bramhall II participated in the encore with Little Queen Of Spades and Cocaine, including this song. Clapton was not tired. As proof of this, most of the audience reviews said that the highlights of the day were Badge, Crossroads, and Cocaine. In other words, Clapton, who was in top form and never tired, continued to push through even in the second half. He even showed the luxury of serving up the hard Sunshine Of Your Love. Clapton’s finger speed in Cocaine’s solo was also the best of the three days! As it was the final day, there’s no doubt that the stage was more spirited. Looking at it this way, it’s hard to say which day was better. Then I’d like you to listen to everything in this high-quality ALD & AUD mix version, which is being released for the first time in Japan.
