Description

This is a 2CD set of one of Eric Clapton’s latest “50th Anniversary Tour” sound sources, a complete recording of the Royal Albert Hall performance in London on May 23rd with a very good stereo audience recording. This record captures the fifth day of the consecutive performances at this venue, and is produced directly from the original DAT master recorded by a person living in the UK in our network. Naturally, this is the first time this master has appeared, and the unique sound coming from the structure of this hall is felt, but it has been suppressed as much as possible and the sound has been contoured. The sound pressure is sufficient, and the band sound, which is firmly captured from the bass drum to the back chorus, is well balanced and powerful. The daily numbers for this day are I Shot The Sheriff and Further On Down The Road from the new album. The former’s dynamism further boosts the momentum from the previous song Got To Get Better In A Little While. Clapton’s solo in the latter half of the album is also composed of lively phrases, and the excitement in the hall is captured in the middle. The latter is performed with an acoustic set and a reggae touch as in the album, creating a gentle mood and successfully relaxing the hall. Also worth listening to are Come Rain Or Come Shine and Blues Power, which were newly added to the regular tunes from the European tour. In this album, the vocal sharing between Clapton and guest keyboardist Paul Carrack in the former, and the interplay between Clapton and Doyle Bramhall’s guitar solo in the latter are captured more vividly, and Clapton’s guitar playing, which is flying away in a good mood, sounds pleasant. In the encore, the notable player Gary Clark Jr., who also served as Eric’s opening act on this day, appears, and the guitar playing is recorded in detail in two songs, Sunshine Of Your Love and High Time We Went. As we listen to the set list, we can see that it is a fitting tour for the 50th anniversary of his professional debut, with a wide range of songs selected from a wide range of eras, from the opening number played for the first time in 37 years and Blues Power, played for the first time in 28 years, to the new album, with representative songs from his Cream and Dominos eras, solo career, and blues, which is his identity. From the hardest hits like Crossroads and Sunshine Of Your Love to the softest hits like Layla and Wonderful Tonight, the variety of songs shows the breadth and depth of Clapton as an artist. We hope you will take this opportunity to enjoy this album along with the simultaneously released “HIGH TIME IN HAMBURG,” which has different songs every day, and experience the true pleasure of this tour.
