Description

This 6-CD set contains the superb sound quality and superb recordings of the three joint concerts with Steve Winwood, which were scheduled in the latter half of Eric Clapton’s 2011 European tour, and were the highlight of his 11 consecutive performances at the Royal Albert Hall. Five performances with Winwood were held between May 26th and June 1st. This album exquisitely covers the opening and closing stages, when the set list changed, on the first day, the 26th, the second day, the 27th, and the final day, June 1st. Moreover, the masters used for all three performances are original high-quality DAT masters that are not available on the Internet, let alone among traders, and are all recorded in the best environment and position with the same taper (by a British taper living in London who provides countless high-quality recording masters, such as last year’s Clapton & Beck’s London O2, the previous Roger Waters (with Gilmour) London O2, and McCartney’s London Hammersmith.) This is an astonishing collection of the highest quality sound sources, far surpassing the sound sources of the same day available on the Internet. The loudness and liveliness of Clapton’s guitar as if it were right in front of you, the freshness of the sound of the cymbals including the hi-hat, and the transparency of the entire band sound. If you listen to this board, you will notice the clear difference in quality from the sound sources on the Internet. The first day is the first stage of the two in a year, so you can see this year’s performance. The band personnel was the same as the previous year, but the set list was changed again by adding the Clapton-led “Hoochie Coochie Man” and Winwood-led “While You See A Chance”. Listening to the latter and Winwood numbers such as “Glad”, you can feel Clapton’s natural flexible session sense. The first day ended up being the day with the fewest songs played, but it can be said that the changes in the subsequent performances were due to this first day. On the second day, “Driftin'” and “Layla” were played more in the sitting set in the middle than on the first day. This is probably the result of the two of them discussing after the first day, “We can do more!” The performance proceeded in this way, and on the final day, “Pearly Queen” from the Traffic era was played instead of “Midland Maniac” which was included in Winwood’s first solo album. Also, on the final day, Clapton added a unique solo intro that he had never played before in the opening number. In this way, the set list and style changed little by little every day depending on the two’s chemistry, preferences and mood. Looking at the reviews on fan sites, many people say that the highlights were the sitting set in the middle and “Voodoo Chile” and “Cocaine,” clearly showing the preferences of the older audience. After the mature stage in the middle, the audience was probably shocked by the way they played these two songs. This original master version, which surpasses the quality of the online sound source, is the definitive version of the latest Clapton & Winwood performance, and it can be said that it is the best title for preparing for the performance in Japan.
